Doctor Who: Now We Are Six Hundred
Doctor Who: Now We Are Six Hundred: A Collection of Time Lord Verse | James Goss
5 posts | 2 read
With illustrations by Russell T Davies, original showrunner of the new-era Doctor Who, the first ever Doctor Who poetry collectiona charming, funny and whimsical illustrated collection of verse that celebrates the joys and pitfalls of getting older . . . Time-Lord older. Like many of us, the older they get, the more Time Lords realize how little they understand the universe around them. This delightful collection of poemsthe first volume of Doctor Who verse publishedoffers moments of insight, wit, and reassurance for the maturing inhabitants of Gallifrey (and everywhere else), including such delights as: THE END When I was One I was not much fun When I was Two I was barely through When I was Three I liked strong tea When I was Four I hated a bore When I was Five I was really alive When I was Six I somehow could never quite fit in to what was expected of me, well, not exactly but that was because things werent neat and there are no easy rhymes in the universe and scansion, my dear Peri, is a thing thats really overrated and you only have to look at a sunset to realise that creation itself is a poem and oh no wait, got it, of course, Fix! The line needed to end with Fix! (Or tricks. Thats works too.) When I was Seven I sent the gods to Heaven When I was Eight Kissing was great When I was Nine I had forgotten time When I was Ten I began again When I was Eleven I totally got even When I was Twelve, I became as clever as clever And now I think Ill be Twelve for ever and ever* (*Unless, of course, there is a terrible catastrophe involving explosions, radiation, or heights. And then I guess well find out what comes next. But the eyebrows wont be as good.)

One of my favourite Russell T. Davies illustrations from this collection, illustrating the poem « The Guide Dog » (which was one of my favourite poems in the collection, too).

Pickpick

I am calling this a pick primarily for the illustrations. (RTD captures Twelve so well here 😍) The poetry worked less well for me, possibly because I am not familiar with Now We Are Six, but also possibly because the rhymes don‘t always work, like here. But now I think I‘d like to get back into writing poetry, so I thank this book for the inspiration 😊

LiterRohde Fill the bookcase. Unless it shares properties with the TARDIS, I think you are pretty much there! 5y
rabbitprincess @LiterRohde The next trick will be making my other bookcases adopt TARDIS-like properties so that they can hold the non-DW books! It's currently only about 1/3 DW. 5y
LiterRohde Ah, I see. It‘s hard to see the titles on my phone, so I thought they were all DW. But I think I can make out some Shakespeare now. I‘ve never read DW. I love the TV show, both classic and reboot. Any book recommendations? 5y
rabbitprincess @LiterRohde My favourite novelization is The Mind Robber, by Peter Ling. Close on its heels is the recent novelization of The Day of the Doctor by Steven Moffat. I also enjoyed Gareth Roberts' take on Shada, and Sands of Time by Justin Richards is delightfully timey-wimey. 5y

Poetry and Doctor Who! Two of my favourite things combined here and when I heard this book was in the works, honestly I was so excited for it! 😱 so I was over the moon when I got my copy ☺️ I can‘t wait to read it! I‘m still reading Lady Midnight, which is honestly so perfect honestly I love the angst 🙈 #book #booklover #reading #bookblogger #bookaddict #poetry #bookphoto #bibliophile #bookdragon #whovian #doctorwho #jamesgoss
