Wuthering Heights: The Graphic Novel
Wuthering Heights: The Graphic Novel | Sean Michael Wilson
5 posts | 3 read | 1 to read
"That minx, Catherine Linton, or Earnshaw, or however she was called - wicked little soul! She told me she had been walking the earth these twenty years: a just punishment for her mortal transgressions, I've no doubt!" A favorite book of many readers, this is the classic tale presented as a full-color graphic novel, featuring beautiful hand-painted watercolor artwork. The traditional approach taken to the art creates a wonderful sensory experience to engage any reader, while staying true to the original prose novel by utilising authentic text and dialogue. Designed to encourage readers to enjoy classical literature, titles in the Classical Comics range stay true to the original vision of the authors. They also offer alternative text versions to cater for different readership levels. This title has been moderately and sympathetically abridged from the original text to fit within the graphic novel format.

Mehso-so

These illustrations are GORGEOUS. I was really hoping to feel a different way about the novel, but I just can‘t. This was my 3rd reading of Wuthering Heights and I just hate Cathy with a passion. These narcissists just aren‘t for me. 😂 I promise, I won‘t shame you for loving it! This is strictly a matter of personal opinion. The writing itself is wonderful & the characters are clearly fleshed-out...I just happen to hate them. 😂🤷🏻‍♀️😂

Clare-Dragonfly I hated this book (or at least… all the characters in it) and the expressions in this image are so unconvincing! I think I‘ll pass 😂 3y
AshleyHoss820 @Clare-Dragonfly I honestly can‘t with Catherine and Heathcliff. There‘s being a tortured soul and there‘s being a destructive, narcissistic, sadistic psychopath....I would never have read this if it weren‘t for a class. I always feel so bad talking about it with people who love it because I don‘t want them to stop loving it, but...🤣 (edited) 3y

Has anyone read this or any other “Classical Comics” interpretations? Other than Maus read in middle school, I‘m a newbie to graphic novels. I‘ve committed to “Kierkegaard for Beginners” and “Thoreau at Walden” - and am curious about revisiting old favorites in a new format. 🙂

Pickpick

I read Wuthering Heights ages ago. Reading the graphic novel version sure brought back memories about the story. What an intense and tragic love story between Heathcliff and Catherine - two not very endearing characters (IMHO). This is a pretty good adaptation and I loved the beautiful illustrations by John M. Burns.

Rating: 4🌟

SailorMoon I am glad you liked it! I personally hated it... because I was expecting such a great love story, instead I found a lot of bitterness and hate. Maybe it all depensa on where you are in your life when you read it, I guess! I would have loved it in high school probably! 5y
SailorMoon *depends 5y
StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @SailorMoon I felt the same way when I read it, and came to the same conclusion. I like the art in this version though. 5y

catebutler What a beautiful edition! I know a lot of readers don‘t consider this a romance, but I do! It will always be one of my favourites- so haunting! 5y
thereadingowlvina @SailorMoon @StillLookingForCarmenSanDiego @catebutler Truth be told, when I read it the first time (ages ago), I loved it! The romance was intense & passionate. Rereading it in graphic novel version, er ... I had second thoughts now 😐 But I love this graphic novel version for its beautiful illustrations and for the pretty good adaptation 🤗💛 5y
SailorMoon @thereadingowlvina I would probably enjoy this graphic novel more than I did the book... the illustations seem so good!!! As for the romance in general, I really could not find it... what caught my eye was solely his spitefulness and hate towards that good boy and the little girl (whose names I can't remember now, I am afraid!). But, as I always say: "de gustibus non disputandum est"! ?? 5y

Reading more of this with my coffee this morning. For some reason I thought reading this book in graphic novel form would be a breeze. Um no. But I do love the graphics. #24in48
