Io e te
Io e te | Niccol Ammaniti
4 posts | 18 read | 7 to read

2 books went back to the library--1 unfinished & 1 that I finished but still need to post a review for & 1 (Station Eleven) got renewed because I really want to read it. The bottom 2 books checked themselves out & came home with me. Oops!😬Then the sweet siren of the library store called to me w/50% off of everything this week & my favorite volunteer was working-so the top 3 books came home w/me for a total of .75 cents. Sucked in yet again...📚😱

RealLifeReading Good times! 😍 7y

Pickpick

Lorenzo, 14, is a loner who has lied to his parents about going on a ski trip with friends - he doesn't actually have any. In reality, he is camping in the cellar, quite content. His almost never talked of half sister comes around, and in a search for lost belongings finds him in the cellar and blackmails him into letting her stay. She is a heroin addict, going through withdrawal. This book is raw and vulnerable. Translated from the Italian.

Midnight snack 😇

I found this book during shelving time today and it demanded that I read it. I have a weakness for books that promise the revealing of family secrets. I'm already halfway - and it's pretty damn fine.

I used to say that I was going over to my friend's house but really I went & hid at Grandma Laura's. She lived on the top floor of an apartment building near ours... We spent our afternoons playing canasta. She would drink Bloody Marys and I would have tomato juice with pepper and salt. We had made a pact: she wouldn't tell about my not going out with my friends & I wouldn't tell about her drinking Bloody Marys.

julesG Sounds like you had a cool grandmother. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG, book grandmothers are usually pretty cool ❤️ 7y
julesG @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Oh, crappers, that was a quote, not a blurb. (Mental note to self: do not check Litsy while the little one is having a temper tantrum about writing four lines of writing the letter "F".) 7y
julesG @thegirlwiththelibrarybag Still, a grandma like that would have been great. 7y
thegirlwiththelibrarybag @julesG 😂 all good! I used to play Checkers with my grandmother ☺️ she never drank Bloody Marys tho. 7y
