4 posts | 7 read | 1 reading | 9 to read
Guinevere comes alivea strong, resourceful, and compassionate woman, accessible to modern folk . . . McKenzie makes a quantum leap in defining the character of Guinevere as a real, flesh-and-blood woman. The Arthur-Guinevere-Lancelot triangle comes alive as wellbelievable, poignant, and bearing the seeds of tragedy. KATHERINE KURTZ On the night of Guineveres birth, a wise woman declares a prophecy of doom for the child: She will be gwenhwyfar, the white shadow, destined to betray her king, and be herself betrayed. Years pass, and Guinevere becomes a great beauty, riding free across Northern Wales on her beloved horse. She is entranced by the tales of the valorous Arthur, a courageous warrior who seems to Guinevere no mere man, but a legend. Then she finds herself betrothed to that same famous king, a hero who commands her willing devotion. Just as his knights and all his subjects, she falls under Arthurs spell. At the side of King Arthur, Guinevere reigns strong and true. Yet she soon learns how the dark prophecy will reveal itself. She is unable to conceive. Arthurs only true heir is Mordred, offspring of a cursed encounter with the witch Morgause. Now Guinevere must make a fateful choice: She decides to raise Mordred, teaching him to be a ruler and to honor Camelot. She will love him like a mother. Mordred will be her greatest joyand the key to her ultimate downfall. Return to a time of legendthe days of Guinevere and Arthur and the glory that was to become Camelot From the Trade Paperback edition.

I am posting one book per day from my extensive to-be-read collection. No description and providing no reason for wanting to read it, I just do. Some will be old, some will be new. Don‘t judge me - I have a lot of books. Join the fun if you want.

Day 5 of #febinbooks18 is favorite #booktropes. I guess I'd say I'm kinda a sucker for star-crossed love. I consider both of these in that category, regardless of how they end.

EstelaV Have you read Revoultion by Jennifer Donnelly? Its absolutely brilliant. And the Queen of camelot... sigh I need to read that. How would you rate it? 6y
VeganCleopatra @EstelaV I have and I didn't like that one as much. I did really enjoy the entire Tea Rose series and A Northern Light though. Queen of Camelot was really well done, even if you aren't a big King Arthur fan. I would definitely say it is a favorite! 6y
VeganCleopatra @EstelaV Also I'm just getting used to the format here, how did you add the book link to your comment? 6y
EstelaV @VeganCleopatra next to the send button there is a faded flag and a faded skull and bones, I hit the faded flag and you can add a book there. 6y
VeganCleopatra @EstelaV Ah! Thank you! It was right there. Sigh. 6y
