Paul McCartney
Paul McCartney: A Life | Peter Ames Carlin
4 posts | 3 read
From the acclaimed biographer who brought you the rock biography of Bruce Springsteen comes the life of musician Paul McCartneyfrom his groundbreaking years with the Beatles to Wings to his work as a solo artist and activist. More than a rock star, more than a celebrity, Paul McCartney is a cultural touchstone who helped transform popular music as one half of the legendary Lennon-McCartney songwriting duo. In this definitive biography, Peter Ames Carlin examines McCartneys entire life, casting new light not just on the Beatles era but also on his years with Wings and his thirty-year relationship with his first wife, Linda McCartney. He takes us on a journey through a tumultuous couple of decades in which Paul struck out on his own as a solo artist, reached the top of the charts with a new band, and once again drew hundreds of thousands of screaming fans to his concerts. Carlin presents McCartney as a musical visionary but also as a layered and conflicted figure as haunted by his own legacyand particularly his relationship with John Lennonas he was inspired by it. Built on years of research and fresh, revealing interviews with friends, bandmates, and collaborators spanning McCartneys entire life, Carlins lively biography captures the many faces of the living legend.

Sick again (or still?) so taking a slow day today. Been listening to Paul McCartney‘s underrated 2005 solo album, Chaos and Creation in the Backyard. Highlights for me are Friends to Go, Promise to You Girl, and the haunting Riding to Vanity Fair:

TieDyeDude Thanks for the recommendation! 2w
TieDyeDude Our local independent radio station is big on the Beatles and played “Fine Line“ a lot when it was released. I hadn't listened to the rest before. I like “Too Much Rain“ and “Riding to Vanity Fair“. 2w
CSeydel @TieDyeDude Oh, nice! I do like Fine Line as the album opener, but yeah Riding to Vanity Fair is probably my favorite. Too Much Rain is beautiful also. 2w

#HeyJune

This is Paul during the March for Our Lives rally in NY a few months ago. When I saw him standing there (on my tv screen), I was sad and proud.
