Paris, 1307. A Knight Templar weeps as he watches his friends, broken by torture, go to their deaths at the stake. Pope Clement has destroyed the Order, persuaded of corruption within it. All that remains is the desire for vengeance against those who defiled the Order’s name. Devon 1316. Simon Puttock is the newly appointed bailiff of Lydford Castle, but has little experience of violence. A charred body is found in a burned-out cottage, and only the new lord, Sir Baldwin de Furnshill, deduces that the victim was dead before the fire began. Together, Simon and Baldwin begin to piece together the events of the man’s last days. Then word comes of another murder, and this time the victim was burned alive…

When 27 of a 32 book run is at your library sale for 25 cents & 10 cents each , I grab them ! Hope I like them. 🤩

SaunteringVaguelyDownwards I once snagged the majority of the Discworld series in the same way. I didn't have a bag on me because I was just planning on returning 2 books - I had to beg one from the circ desk to get them all home! 11mo

Leftcoastzen @SaunteringVaguelyDownwards thats funny ! I remembered I had a plastic grocery bag in the car, I put half in the bag, the security guard said , take those out ,l‘ll keep an eye on them. Came back & scooped up the rest ! That was a great score , I need to get back to Discworld! 11mo

Finally got hold of The Last Templar, the first book in The Medieval West Country Mystery Series by Michael Jecks. Been after a copy of this for a long time. Currently 99p in the UK across various platforms if anyone is interested.

Ms_T Love it when a book you‘ve been after for ages pops up at 99p. Enjoy! 5y

Pickpick

Good mystery though I'm not sure about the ethics of the ending or whether Simon would have made that decision
