The Way to Bea
The Way to Bea | Kat Yeh
10 posts | 7 read | 5 to read
With a charming voice, winning characters, and a perfectly-woven plot, Kat Yeh delivers a powerful story of friendship and finding a path towards embracing yourself. Everything in Bea's world has changed. She's starting seventh grade newly friendless and facing big changes at home, where she is about to go from only child to big sister. Feeling alone and adrift, and like her words don't deserve to be seen, Bea takes solace in writing haiku in invisible ink and hiding them in a secret spot. But then something incredible happens--someone writes back. And Bea begins to connect with new friends, including a classmate obsessed with a nearby labyrinth and determined to get inside. As she decides where her next path will lead, she just might discover that her words--and herself--have found a new way to belong.

Loved this beautiful story about friendship and being true to yourself. Great characters and loved the authentic ending, which was still happy.

This is my newest #huggable book!
It‘s about friendships — ending and forming
It‘s about acceptance
It‘s about being there for friends
It‘s about finding yourself
And it features a kick a$$ librarian!

I have an eight year old daughter who is finding her way with friends. As her mom, I am finding my way in new friendships with her friends‘ parents. This book spoke to me as much as I think it will speak to my daughter

JillR This sounds good. It can be hard helping them learn about friendships and the ups and downs of them. I‘ve been seeking out books that might help for my 10 year old too 😊 6y

This was such a brilliant MGA novel. I meant to read 3 chapters at 3 am and ended up reading the entire book. It was worth it though.

5☆.

Did some speed dating with children's authors and Kat Yeh was my first date. Had so much fun listening yo some really great authors and hanging out with some great booksellers. #BookExpo #BEA17 #NYC #middlegrade

RaimeyGallant I need to try speed dating authors sometime. Bucket list updated. :) #NYClove 7y
Wbabdullah @MidnightBookGirl ok how does one go about speed dating authors? I need details, woman! We have the National Book Fest/BookTV conference annually here around these parts but I never heard of a speed dating type scenario with authors. Would love to pick their brains!! 6y
MidnightBookGirl @Wbabdullah this one was at #BookExpo, and it's a chance for authors to pitch their books to booksellers. We also did a similar thing with Publishers. It was a lot of fun, but over too quick! 6y
Wbabdullah Oooh nice! I will look out for it!! Thank you!! 6y

After reading Woman No. 17, I'm ready for a fun middle grade novel. Looking forward to this one.
