Excellent re-read.

A weird book that I heard about back in high school (I think) and finally got a copy of to read. I‘m honestly not sure how I feel about this one. It takes place in the future where corporations (openly) run everything and you actually take on the name of the company you work for (John Nike for example). Definitely a weird story.

When I first read this 11 years ago, I was using a book app that suddenly disappeared, along with most of my data. I remembered really liking it; but, anymore, that makes me apprehensive about rereading [my tastes have changed, understandably, through the years]. Luckily, I really liked it this time, too! This particular dystopia isn't triggering me as much as many of my old faves do now that we're living them. Whew—dodged a bullet there!

Squidapus is a big fan of Max Barry but this is unfortunately not his best book. While the world and plot are really interesting what drew the book down was the main character, Jennifer. She always seems to be stopping short or unable to actually take any action or accomplish anything. A character you are consistently told is badass but at the end of the book you try and think what she actually ever did other than stand around late to the party.

Hooray! It‘s #deweysreadathon day! I‘m starting off by finishing this great #freakyfriday read. Pele doesn‘t make a great book stand but he is cozy. #dogsoflitsy

It's a funny time to re-read dystopian novels. Fifteen years later and the hyper-capitalism feels a little less far fetched. Not a particularly deeply meaningful read, but thought-provoking and fun!

The last sentence.

Overall, I wasn't impressed with this book. Every time I got settled and invested with a particular character, the scene jumped to another one. That made it harder to follow, plus the characters weren't very deep. I read it for the #2017readingchallenge for #firstnameinatitle. It's between a So-so and a Pan, honestly

The premise was interesting but by the middle of the story I still didn't care. Shame about the meh but a movie version would rock.
