180 Seconds | Jessica Park
Some people live their entire lives without changing their perspective. For Allison Dennis, all it takes is 180 seconds...After a life spent bouncing from one foster home to the next, Allison is determined to keep others at arm's length. Adopted at sixteen, she knows better than to believe in the permanence of anything. But as she begins her third year in college, she finds it increasingly difficult to disappear into the white noise pouring from her earbuds. One unsuspecting afternoon, Allison is roped into a social experiment just off campus. Suddenly, she finds herself in front of a crowd, forced to interact with a complete stranger for 180 seconds. Neither she, nor Esben Baylor, the dreamy social media star seated opposite her, is prepared for the outcome. When time is called, the intensity of the experience overwhelms Allison and Esben in a way that unnerves and electrifies them both. With a push from her oldest friend, Allison embarks on a journey to find out if what she and Esben shared is the real thing--and if she can finally trust in herself, in others, and in love.

I personally really loved this book. I thought at first, in the beginning chapters this was a really odd story so far. How could staring at someone for 180 seconds create a story line? Well I was wrong, once I got a few chapters passed the main event, I literally could not put this book down. The emotions this author was able to capture in words was incredible. Truly a feel good story. Reminds you to live in the moment. Well done, Jessica Park.

Overall, I enjoyed reading this but it wasn't without flaws. Parts were a little unrealistic, but if emotion is what you're going for it has that. Love and loss.

This YA contemporary romance took me by surprise.
I enjoyed the premise of this story, loved watching Allison and Esben‘s relationship unfold and adored everything about Simon and his parenting abilities.

This story relayed so many positive messages around kindness and hope, family and love, trust and friendship, it really was a great read that drew every emotion from me.

My first read from Jessica Park, it won‘t be my last.

I finished it! I almost DNf‘d it, but I‘m glad I finished. She redeemed some things, but I still feel her portrayal of foster care is problematic.

I may need to DNF this one. Park is using major stereotypes about foster kids and foster parents and it‘s pissing me off. Park is just feeding into stereotypes and using major misinformation to make her character seem even more damaged. The damage from abandonment is real enough. Why add stereotypes?
As a former foster parent, as an adoptive parent, and as an advocate for children, I find this writing lazy and ill informed.

This is a departure from the type of books I usually read. I was worried it was going to be too much of a romance, but that turned out to not be the core focus of the story. This was a surprisingly touching tale and I cried several times during the book. 😭

Stephaniereads1 I recommend Flat Out Matt by her also! 5y

Wow!!! What a devastatingly awesome emotional ride! I haven‘t read an entire book in one day in a very long time but I absolutely couldn‘t put this down. If you at all like the “new adult” genre, read this!! But stock up on Kleenex first.

I love Jessica Park and haven‘t read anything by her that I didn‘t like. This was a bit of a tough read for me for personal reasons and I would have put it off if I had know that this fell under a read with tissues category. It was a good story and had a unique premise and a great ending, even though it was tough.

I didn't expect much of this book. I was in the mood for a sweet, quick read and I was sure this would deliver. Which it did! It was So. Very. Sweet. Except for the parts that dealt with:the effects of life in the foster care system, sexual assault, the real world problems internet trolls can cause, cancer, etc-I sobbed every few pages. It was much better than I expected. Also, Esben is a unicorn- when I was 20ish I knew zero guys that evolved.

Oh. My. Goodness. This story is beautiful. Jessica Park's writing is beautiful. Seriously. Esben and Allison made me laugh, then cry, then swoon, then cry again, and swoon again. This was my first experience with Jessica Park's writing, but it will definitely not be my last. I have already added 180 Seconds to my "Favorites" collection on my Kindle.

There were plenty of things I loved about this book, and certain things I was disappointed in. I felt like a lot of parts and characters could have been better developed, but she seemed to rush through it all. Her social experiment ideas were amazing, but the rest was so-so. It's still a decent read, but could have been so much better.

Since I loved Flat Out Love so much I rushed at the opportunity to read this one. Inevitably I built it up in my mind, and inevitably it just couldn't live up to this. The story held my interest, but since I only skimmed the blurb, I found the initial premise to be a bit far fetched.

Pretty good book about a girl who grew up in foster care who learns to let her walls down and fall in love with a boy and with new friends and her foster dad.

There were some instances in the book were I felt it was too cheesy but I did get teary eyed on a few parts. The whole 180 second eye contact the heroine and hero when they first meet as part of a social experiment was interesting start to their romance.
