Who Was Jackie Robinson?
Who Was Jackie Robinson? | Gail Herman
10 posts | 7 read | 1 to read
As a kid, Jackie Robinson loved sports. And why not? He was a natural at football, basketball, and, of course, baseball. But beyond athletic skill, it was his strength of character that secured his place in sports history. In 1947 Jackie joined the Brooklyn Dodgers, breaking the long-time color barrier in major league baseball. It was tough being first- not only did "fans" send hate mail but some of his own teammates refused to accept him. Here is an inspiring sports biography, with black-and-white illustrations throughout. From the Trade Paperback edition.

I don‘t think I‘ve read any ballgame/baseball books. This pic is from the only Major League game I have been to—during my trip to Toronto. It was a fun experience. #litsyspringbreak @Alwaysbeenaloverofbooks @TheKidUpstairs

Scochrane26 @TheKidUpstairs I was fascinated when it started to rain, & they had the dome cover us up. It was so cool. And I got to see people climbing outside the CN tower before the rain. 3y

I would use this in my classroom to show students the history of sports and the history of African Americans. This book is also very engaging for older elementary students.

This book is a biography because it tells the accurate story of Jackie Robinson and his life. This is interesting to children because he changed the sports world forever by being the first African American to play professional baseball.

This Biography (B) would be great for a baseball loving student to read independently (IR). These novels are very informative and will keep students interested if they like the person they‘re reading about.

The true biography of the first African American Major League Baseball player in America. This book informs you of Jackie Robinson and how he was much more than a baseball player. This is just one of many "Who Was" book series. To see more click the link http://www.whowasbookseries.com #ucflae3414sp17
