This volume collects the #1issues of the New Riverdale titles which is actually a cool way to introduce fans of the show to the comics. I was already familiar with the new Archie, Jughead 😍, & Josie series but Betty & Veronica was a pleasant surprise for its dreamy retro coloring and the verbose narration of Jug's English Sheepdog Hot Dog 😂 why Reggie & Me needs to exist remains a mystery (more dog narration! 😮). #mommyreads #riverdale #comics

I expected this to be a storyline similar to the TV show, but that one‘s just called Riverdale. This is actually a collection of unrelated first issues from the new Riverdale gang—Archie, Jughead, Betty & Veronica, Josie & the Pussycats, and Reggie & Me (the “me” is Reggie‘s dog). In a weird twist of past reality, I preferred the Archie, Josie & the Pussycats, and Reggie & Me issues to the others. #LetsGetGraphicWeeklongMarathon #LitsyPartyofOne

I've been nervous to give this one a go, because I'm worried about it ruining the original comics for me. I grew up on those comics. I remember countless days watching my older brother read them, then years later I had a collection of my own. Maybe 300-400 archie comics in total. But here I am. I'm going to jump in, and hope for the best! 📚❤️📚

readinginthedark I felt the same way! I think it‘s different enough that we can enjoy the new one separately from the old one. The show isn‘t bad, but it‘s mostly one of those YA group society thriller things—kind of weird and overly dramatic. 6y

I haven't read any from this series, but I used to read comics about Archie and the gang all the time! And the new Riverdale show is gritty and dramatic; I did not expect to like it, but I am so hooked! Is anybody else watching this? Side note: I am loving this version of Jughead! Other than the parents, they've probably changed him the most...well, him and Archie. #bookintomovie #splashintosummerreads

mandapants It did start to get a bit over the top ~ but i have gobbled up every episode. Veronica is my least fav. 7y

christineandbooks I'm watching it... definitely a guilty pleasure show along the lines of Pretty Little Liars for me. Intrigued enough to watch again next season. Love the Jughead character. Archie kinda gets on my nerves. 7y

And Archie is grating. Not sure how I feel about Veronica yet...or Cheryl Blossom; they're not exactly what I expected. Is anyone else wondering why all of the parents are majorly screwed up? 7y

batsy @christineandbooks @readinginthedark Same! It's filling the PLL hole in my life. I too can't stand Archie and love Jughead. 😁 I enjoy the over-the-top Cheryl and Betty's mom for the campy drama; the rest of them are quite forgettable... 7y

readinginthedark @DivineDiana Pretty Little Liars--it's based on a YA book series. I haven't watched or read it, but I think it starts out with some girls covering up a murder and gets more convoluted with lies and drama and relationships as it goes. 7y

DivineDiana I am aware of Pretty Little Liars. The author lives in my area and grew up in the town where I used to teach. Did not know about a show based on the Archie comics! 😉 7y

readinginthedark @DivineDiana Oh sorry! It's called Riverdale, and I think it's based on some of the newer comics in a modern setting? It has the same characters, but they all have some major issues, and it starts with Jason Blossom dying. So, while little dramas are happening, there's a continuous thread figuring out what happened to him and how it affected everyone else in Riverdale. Very dramatic, gritty, kind of messed-up in parts. 7y
