General Relativity for Babies
General Relativity for Babies | Chris Ferrie
9 posts | 11 read | 7 to read
Ages 0 to 3 years General Relativity for Babies by Chris Ferrie is a simple introduction to Einstein's crowning achievement. Baby will learn how mass warps space-time and how spinning black holes can send ripples of gravitational waves through space. With Newton's laws, we can do simple things like predict where a thrown ball will land all the way to complicated things like landing a man on the moon. And now baby will know them too! This is the first in a series of books designed to stimulate your baby and introduce them to the world of science. Also coming in May are: Newtonian Physics for Babies Rocket Science for Babies Quantum Physics for Babies

Today is reading day, but yesterday was rocket day, shooting a water rocket with our granddaughter. The tagged book is in her library, as is Quantum Physics for Babies by the same author. Really cute, with a lot of good information. I‘m not sure how much she‘s getting out of them yet, but I‘m learning a lot while reading with her😄

Cinfhen She‘s adorable and how crazzzy, I remember when she was born!!!! I feel like an auntie 😜😂💞 5y
Lynnsoprano @Cinfhen That‘s why I refer to this community as my Litsy family. I think she‘s lucky to have you as a Litten auntie 😘 5y
Cinfhen HeHe.....Thanks so much, Lynn!!! I know she has an awesome real life aunt @Ambrosnazzy 5y

On the last leg of our trip, and spent the night with our son and his family. I discovered that our granddaughter‘s morning routine starts with a book, even before diaper change. This morning‘s reading was General Relativity for Babies, with her dad.

Cortg She‘s getting soooo big! What a great wait to start the day 😀 6y
julesG Such a good way to start the day! 6y
AJones That‘s great! 💜📚I spotted the sticker in the background. I‘m a fellow Knight too! 🤓 6y
Lynnsoprano @AJones Knights all the way! The nursery is painted gold, and there are lots of UCF stickers. 6y

I was excited for this book. And then I was SO DISAPPOINTED.

It explains separate concepts well enough, but doesn't tie them together. Eric loves and understands physics and he wasn't a fan of this either.

UrsulaMonarch I totally agree!! Too bad since it's a nice idea! 6y

The kids wanted to take a walk around the park. Naturally we wound up at the library where we found science books written just for me. #BoardBooks

What did I just read? Mass, space, black holes, gravitational waves... I'm not really sure, but it is a cute way to introduce anyone, not just babies, to the key concepts of relativity.

JanuarieTimewalker13 Hahahaha!! This is great! I have a 1 and 3 year old (both nieces have 1 child) that will def be getting this!! 7y
WanderingBookaneer @JanuarieTimewalker13 : The author has a whole series! 7y
JanuarieTimewalker13 Wow!! Did not know that!! Thank you!! 7y

I was so surprised to come scrips this at work last night. It actually is, yes, an explanation of general relativity broken down into basic terms. To be honest, even as an adult I have to stop and think about it to "get" it, but I love that this exists and know some parents who could make great use of it.

I love a book that can take a complicated element and break it down to its basic form. This book does exactly that. Now for people who haven't studied physics it still may not make complete sense but upon additional reading it will become more clear. This book is a great way to start kids on understanding complex ideas and concepts. Now for fun factor. That is missing, but it's also not needed.
