The Lost Girl of Astor Street
The Lost Girl of Astor Street | Stephanie Morrill
28 posts | 18 read | 32 to read
When her best friend vanishes without so much as a good-bye, eighteen-year-old Piper Sail takes on the role of amateur sleuth in an attempt to solve the mystery of Lydias disappearance. Given that Pipers tendency has always been to butt heads with high-societys expectations of her, its no surprise that she doesnt give a second thought to searching for answers to Lydias abduction from their privileged neighborhood. As Piper discovers that those answers might stem from the corruption strangling 1924 Chicagoand quite possibly lead back to the doors of her affluent neighborhoodshe must decide how deep shes willing to dig, how much she should reveal, and if shes willing to risk her life of privilege for the sake of the truth. Perfect for fans of Libba Bray and Anna Godbersen, Stephanie Morrills atmospheric jazz-age mystery will take readers from the glitzy homes of the elite to the dark underbelly of 1920s Chicago.

I didn‘t realize this 1920‘s murder mystery romance set in gangland Chicago was YA when I started. Fast paced, enjoyable, characters I cared about. Recommend.

When her best friend goes missing in rough 1920s Chicago, Piper refuses to back down until she‘s found. A good mystery with an emotional conclusion.

A one-sitting YA read set in the 1920s. Lovely friendships, strong young women, & men who adore them.

On its way to you, @chelreads -to arrive around the 2nd. Notebook for Pointe, Claw included.

#TheBreakfastBookClub

chelreads I‘m going to be reading and journaling like crazy to pass these along to @melyndarae 😊 I‘m trying to keep them in the same rotation so I‘ll be sending them as follows: 1. Between Shades of Gray 2. Pointe, Claw 3. Flower 4. The Lost Girl of Astor Street 5y
whatsthEStorey @chelreads You‘ve been great about this! If it gets to be too much, I‘m sure nobody would mind if you send one out in March instead of February or stagger them, or something. I think we are all just excited to have our books back in rotation! Pointe, Claw & Lost Girl went really quickly for me, hopefully they do for you too. (edited) 5y

A burst of energy at 9:00 & now I have to wait up for the banana bread to bake. I'm trying to read, but Litsy seems like more fun right now!

This was my latest read for my YA postal book club and one which I thoroughly enjoyed. Highly recommended and I will be on the lookout for more books from this author! Good pick!

This one is getting packaged up and shipped off within the next couple of days to @whatsthEStorey

#TheBreakfastBookClub

Lisas.Library Hello, can you explain #thebreakfastbookclub? I‘d like to know how it works and how to be involved. Thank you 6y
StephanieGeiser @Lisas.Library Absolutely! @Tiffy_Reads put out a call that she was interested in starting a YA book club a few months ago and I responded. She organized the group of people who responded and now we mail the book we read and the corresponding notebook (so we can have a conversation along the way) to the next person in line every 2 months until we get out own book back! It‘s so much fun! 6y

I forgot to post this earlier but better late than never, right? My next read for #TheBreakfastBookClub arrived safe and sound! Looking forward to diving in, even if it probably won‘t happen until the end of this month 😳

hes7 Yay! Enjoy! 6y
Soubhiville Hey Stephanie, are you ok? I saw the news this morning about the gas explosions... I hope you are safe. 6y
StephanieGeiser @Soubhiville Thanks for checking in! Yes, I am safe but those explosions were a bit close for comfort (the closest being just a town over). Better yet, I haven‘t heard anything to suggest my family and friends‘ homes were any of the effected either. Keep your fingers crossed they resolve this quickly! 6y
Soubhiville I‘m glad you‘re ok. That‘s so scary! 6y

I‘m feeling pretty good about finishing my books for #TheBreakfastBookClub and #1001BookSwap over the weekend, instead of waiting until the very last minute as is my habit. 😂 @StephanieGeiser The Lost Girl of Astor Street is in the mail now and @tnociti Giovanni‘s Room will be on the way to you later this week.

Now, I just need to finish a couple #LMPBC books...

Rayleigh_LitAp I want to read this one so bad! 6y

Hooray...finished my #thebreakfastbookclub #GroupA pick! It was honestly between a so-so and pick for me, but decided to lean towards a pick for the fearless main female character and a mystery element. Plus, it‘s set in 1920s Chicago! It seemed a little meatier than other YA novels I‘ve read, so much so that I double checked a few times that I did in fact select a YA book for the group.

This will be sent out Tuesday, @corycatelyn .

StephanieGeiser I had the same concern about my book (tagged) for this group! It seemed to deal with a bit more mature topics than a typical YA so I also re-checked a few times to confirm the genre. 6y
corycatelyn @Librarybelle thanks for the update! Can't wait to get it! 6y
Librarybelle @StephanieGeiser It‘s good to see that there can be more mature choices for teens looking beyond the usual YA book. I thought mine was written for an older audience, just by the writing style. 6y

Of course I‘m starting this a little behind schedule for #thebreakfastbookclub #groupa . Cross fingers I can read this tonight to send out tomorrow morning to @corycatelyn !

corycatelyn Don't rush...I have lots of books to keep me occupied til it gets here 😂🤗 6y
Amie I'll be interested to see what you think of this book. I've had it sitting on my Kindle for ages and still haven't read it. 6y
Librarybelle @corycatelyn 👍Thanks! I know we should send this out by the 20th, which would be doable for me, except for my post office‘s odd hours. At worst, it‘ll be sent out a day late. Definitely won‘t get it done by tomorrow morning! 6y

Piper Sail is the next great female sleuth! 🔍 I loved following her through the streets of 1920s Chicago as she tried to solve the mystery behind her best friend's disappearance. And I admired her headstrong attitude and thirst for answers. I certainly hope we haven't seen the last of Piper Sail because I want more.
Thanks to @bookriot and #BlinkYABooks for this copy I won in a giveaway. It's definitely on my favorites list!
