On the eve of his coming of age, a young Lord begins to see the truth of his parents' lives: his mother cannot buy her way into society no matter how hard he tries, and his father is being ruined by her continued attempts. 🏡🏡🏡Estates!
This book is about Irish landowners, living in London, being absent from their estates, & not being able to properly care for their tenants. But one son is going to change all that. This book actually reminded me a bit of Jane Austen. A little romance, some jabs at society... #150PnPCoverParty

CrowCAH Sounds intriguing! Love the cover art, so idyllic!!! 6y
LeahBergen I‘ve always wanted to read her! She‘s been called “the Irish Jane Austen” (and was admired by Austen, too). 👍🏻 6y
AshleyHoss820 @CrowCAH It‘s a lovely story! And the cover just transports you there! @LeahBergen I‘ve heard that too! It was very Austen-esque! Elizabeth Gaskell also drew inspiration from Austen! This was my first Edgeworth and I really enjoyed it! It was a fairly quick read, too! 😊 6y

Remember, we can judge better by the conduct of people towards others than by their manner towards ourselves.

Pickpick

This was a satisfying read. Irish society, learning what an absentee even is, an author taking jabs at the elite, a young man working to make it all right. I liked it. 99/1,001 #1001Books
