Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years
Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years: The Cappuccino Years | Sue Townsend
4 posts | 12 read | 1 to read
Adrian Mole: The Cappuccino Years is the fifth book in Sue Townsend's brilliantly funny Adrian Mole series. Wednesday August 13th Here I am again - in my old bedroom. Older, wiser, but with less hair, unfortunately. The atmosphere in this house is very bad. The dog looks permanently exhausted. Every time the phone rings my mother snatches it up as though a kidnapper were on the line. Adrian Mole is thirty, single and a father. His cooking at a top London restaurant has been equally mocked ('the sausage on my plate could have been a turd' - AA Gill) and celebrated (will he be the nation's first celebrity offal chef?). And the love of his life, Pandora Braithwaite, is the newly elected MP for Ashby-de-la-Zouch - one of 'Blair's Babes'. He is frustrated, disappointed and undersexed. But a letter from Adrian's past is about to change everything . . . 'Adrian Mole really is a brilliant comic creation. Every sentence is witty and well thought out, and the whole has reverberations beyond itself' The Times 'One of the greatest comic creations. I can't remember a more relentlessly funny book' Daily Mirror 'Three cheers for Mole's chaotic, non-achieving, dysfunctional family. We need him' Evening Standard Sue Townsend is one of Britain's favourite comic authors. Her hugely successful novels include eight Adrian Mole books, The Public Confessions of a Middle-Aged Woman (Aged 553?4), Number Ten, Ghost Children, The Queen and I, Queen Camilla and The Woman Who Went to Bed for a Year, all of which are highly-acclaimed bestsellers. Sue passed away in 2014 and is survived by her husband, four children, ten grandchildren and millions of avid readers.

Bailedbailed

Made it to page 60, although I already noticed yesterday, on page 30, that I grew out of this kind of “humor”. People over 50 should commit suicide in order to save the pension fund money and so that “more than half of the disabled parking spaces in the city center can again be occupied by young people with healthy limbs”.

Urgh 🤢, no, thank you. 🙅🏽‍♀️
Not subtle, but flat and cheap.
Pubertal in its worst meaning because frantically funny.

Am I the only one who read one or two of this series (as a teen, I liked them) and then has completely forgotten about them (and about Adrian)❓🤔 Like they never existed❓

It‘s 1997, Adrian is now 30 and honours the world with a new diary 📔 …
I‘m curious. 😃

But I didn‘t know the author has died. I don‘t know, sometimes I think certain information just gives me a wide berth … 🤷🏽‍♀️

veritysalter I only read one as a teen and all the others as an adult. ♥️ 4y
Centique I only read one as a teen but I watched the tv series and went to the stage show which was my first proper theatre experience - it was wonderful. I want to read these now! 4y
Kaddele Oh, I didn‘t know she‘d died. I read those as a teen and adored them. Never read this one though - it‘s somewhere in my pile of unread books ... She also wrote one about the Royal Family moving to a council estate I think - I remember that it was hilarious. 4y

@TheAromaofBooks washed this #Two4Tuesday into my feed this time and so I decided to turn the tables on @RamsFan1963 ‼️?

1️⃣ Hard to pick. I go for „Arbeit und Struktur“.

2️⃣ I‘m not good at reading challenges – too much self-made pressure – so, no. Also, I rarely make reading plans, I‘m more of a mood reader but I‘d love to finally make it to „??3-2-1 Im Kreis der Verschwörer“ / “??Killer Intent” and „??Immortalis“ which I was gifted.

RamsFan1963 @Buechersuechtling 🤣🤣🤣🤣 You got me!! 4y
Josee.lit.a.lu.et.lira Challenges are hard for me too. I love the idea, but the pressure is real. I do better with book club activities though 🤷🏻‍♀️ 4y
Buechersuechtling @RamsFan1963 Ha‼️ It worked. Cool. 😂 4y
TheSpineView Thanks for playing! 🤩 4y

Somehow, I managed to read the last two books in the wrong order!! I'm pretty sure that's illegal? It's flipping frustrating. Finished both books out of pure stubbornness, just to make sure I'd read all the Adrian mole books. Last one was my favourite
