Fall
Fall | Guillermo Del Toro, Chuck Hogan
Guillermo del Toro, one of Hollywood s most popular and imaginative storytellers (Pan s Labyrinth, Hellboy) and Hammett Award-winning thriller writer Chuck Hogan (Prince of Thieves) return with The Fall, the second blood-chilling volume in their critically acclaimed, New York Times bestselling Strain Trilogy the basis for the FX series. The Fall picks up where The Strain left off with a vampiric infection spreading like wildfire across America as a small band of heroes struggles to save the dwindling human race from the vampire plague. Horror fiction and dark fantasy fans will be swept up in this epic story that bestselling author Nelson DeMille describes as Bram Stoker meets Stephen King meets Michael Crichton. "

Devoured this pretty quick! Must get the third!
I love Del Toro -books, movies, whatever- clearly, his style appeals to me!
I love all the characters, the action, the dialogue....blah blah blah, go read!
Also, still love the art of jacket covers but prefer them off. Haha

You ever hear facts like this in a fictional work and immediately go look it up? 🧐Sorry Del Toro and Hogan, it's not like I don't trust you guys, but it's fiction, right? Lol

So, it's true.
I can't even fathom that amount of money. Unreal.

Waiting for my ☕ to be done so I thought I'd sit on my new little kitchen nook and read.

Also, I started this series ten years ago. This is the SECOND book....it took me a while 😂

@FantasyChick have you read these ones?

ShyBookOwl Omg 😲 same! Lol I read The Strain probably 10 years ago too and really liked it... but never picked this one up. I'd have to re-read The Strain first though. 3y
Andrea4 @ShyBookOwl haha! I even got the second one fairly closely after finishing the first one. And I love the series...so confused with myself 😂 I definitely remembered enough from the first/it handily recaps some stuff in the second so I didn't reread the first one. 3y
Tamra So cozy! 3y

A fast read.

And insidious.

While I wasn‘t particularly terrified reading this, apparently I was: I had nightmares all night while reading this one.

I‘m not sure if I should finish the third, or have a couple palate cleansers in between.

Mehso-so

The second book in The Strain trilogy, The Fall follows the same cast of characters as vampires are taking over NYC. I like the story and find some of the ideas quite compelling, but I‘m bothered by the lack of female characters and marginalization of the ones present. I really don‘t think I‘m going to bother with book 3.

Your kind will exist in a manner beyond all hope. I have delivered to you a new Messiah, and the reckoning is at hand. The mythmakers were right, save for their characterization of the second coming of a Messiah. He will indeed raise the dead. He will preside over the final judgment. God promises eternal life. The Master delivers it. And he will establish his kingdom on earth.

Even if one understands that what one is doing is mad, it is indeed still madness – cutting the diseased heart out of one‘s wife‘s chest and preserving it, the corrupted organ beating with the craving of a bloodworm, inside a pickling jar. Life is madness, thought Satrakian, done with his butchering, looking about the room. And so is love.

I was torn between marking this So-So and Pick. By the end of the book it just slipped into Pick because of the cliffhanger ending. The beginning of this book is slow to get going and it felt like the authors were dragging things out to have enough material for a trilogy. Hopefully book 3 will be a bit better. 3🌠 #fantasy #vampires

DeborahSmall Love the TV show 7y
speljamr @DeborahSmall I've watched season 1 and thought it was well done. I did find that elements of book two had worked there way into season 1 of the TV show, so I've decided to hold off watching seasons 2 & 3 until I've completely finished book 3. 7y
DeborahSmall I watched the 3 latest episodes yesterday. I've never read the books. And love the show, don't want to ruin it by reading the books as I usually end up disappointed 7y

Evening reading time. This second book in the Strain series hasn't seemed quite as good as the first one. #horror #vampires

When I was at the cottage I found a disheveled bookstore and slightly creepy owner (?) BUT it had this gem!!! I read The Strain in the summer of 2010, I think. The sequel has taken long enough to find me but I do like when books "find me" so all is forgiven.

Finally managed to finish The Strain but didn't manage to cure book slump. Three months of barely reading, gave up the reading challenges, decided I really need Kindle Voyage and uninstalled Croatia Reads app (because it's not free anymore :( ). #lazybrokelife

It took the world sixty days to end. And we were there to account for it- our omissions, our arrogance... Leaving us longing for daylight when it was ours no more...
