This was a fun collection of poems and songs. I also had a lot of fun looking for double entendres, which is all Dr. Mike and Sully‘s fault. It was funny to read a section full of sea shanties after the quarantine social media trend of singing that one. Sadly, the shanty from the social media trend wasn‘t in here, but the one from The Big Bang Theory was.

This is the poem of my life. Uber Christians like to ask “what is your life verse?” This is my life poem. I feel like this ALL the time. I‘m trying to remember a time I didn‘t feel like I was drowning, but everyone thought I was having a great time.

Chrissyreadit Full disclosure: this inland girl feels the call of the mountains more than the sea. I have no desire to go on a cruise (except to Alaska) and perhaps am intimidated by the power of the ocean. 3y

I‘m more of a “look at the pretty ocean” and occasional trip to the beach (I‘m too pale for more than that). I like the mountains, too. I loving hiking and that‘s hard to do in the ocean. GingerAntics @Chrissyreadit yup! I wore spf 100 when I used to work outside. My forearms are permanently darker/redder/sorta-tanned than the rest of my body. It‘s kind of sad. But now I‘m almost allergic to sun burn. If I get a little on my face, I‘m fine, but if I get it anywhere else, it won‘t heal and I end up at the doctor‘s office, taking steroids to help it heal. 3y

GingerAntics @Chrissyreadit they would always give me an IV of saline to make sure I was properly hydrated. If the bag took less than 30 minutes to go in, they‘d do another one. 3y

CBee @GingerAntics wow! I got badly burned like that once. My top lip swelled up to twice its normal size! I always thought it was a fever blister, because I still get them sometimes, but I really wonder if it wasn‘t an allergic reaction 😳 (edited) 3y

GingerAntics @CBee I don‘t know if it‘s an actual allergic reaction or if it‘s something else. I‘ve also started to get hell‘s itch every time I get burned on my upper arms, so I tend to just avoid the sun when possible. 3y

GingerAntics @CBee you‘re lucky. It‘s this rare thing that happens where it‘s this painful itch over your sunburn, so your instinct is to itch to elevate the pain, but there‘s sunburn underneath. It‘s kind of like pins and needles. It‘s really annoying. It‘s worst on your back, because you can‘t really do anything. The only way I‘ve found to elevate it is to avoid all lotions and use ice packs to soothe it. It sucks. 3y

GingerAntics @CBee doctor‘s aren‘t sure what causes some people to get it and most people not to. You may have a greater chance of getting it if you have really sensitive skin anyway, but that‘s not a definite. Paler people obviously are more likely to get it because they‘re more likely to burn, so that‘s no help. There are about as many theories as there are doctors looking into it. It could be a type of allergy. It could be an inflammatory issue. 3y

GingerAntics @CBee the one thing they do seem to know is that lidocaine or other numbing agents, even in tiny amounts actually makes it worse. It seems to be some kind of nerve thing, to me, but that could be totally wrong, too. 🤷🏼‍♀️ I think that‘s the main hell of it. No one knows why it happens, so no one can prevent it or stop it. You just have to wait it out. As the sun burn goes away, it goes away. 3y

GingerAntics @CBee see, thats where it‘s so odd. You may never have it happen. Chances are you won‘t. So it seems that skin sensitivity isn‘t part of it, because your odds aren‘t any better or worse than anyone else‘s of getting it, but people who do get it, often have sensitive skin. It‘s so weird. Just avoid sun burn and you‘ll never know if whatever crazy switch gets flipped in your skin, or brain, or nerves, or... ??? Alcohol doesn‘t help either. 3y

CBee @GingerAntics it really is weird! I‘d never even heard of it until you told me. I just know that I never want to burn as badly as I did that one time. Super painful and I was so miserable. Totally looked like I‘d been punched in the mouth 😳😳 3y

CBee @GingerAntics gosh it‘s been so long ago, but we were in Mexico, and of course I‘d probably had too much to drink. And we were literally out on the beach walking around and I FORGOT sunscreen 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️ 3y

GingerAntics @CBee yup! I was about that age when I got so bad I had to go to the hospital (the first time - I seem to have gotten more sensitive to the sun as I‘ve gotten older). It almost seems like a rite of passage. Ah yes, being young and dumb is dangers when you‘re pale. 🤣😂🤣 3y

CBee @GingerAntics honey I‘m so old I can‘t remember 😂😂 I guess also because I just stopped being outside as much? When I was a kid I was always outside, always swimming, all that fun stuff. I got super shy around 12 or 13..... so that was part of it too. Ah, memories 😂😳 3y

GingerAntics @CBee hm, I never thought of it that way. I used to spend all summer out playing and swimming and having fun. I had one instance of hell‘s itch back then when I got a really bad sunburn. Other than that, I had no problems until I was older and spent most of my time indoors. Hm. I stopped spending so much time outdoors at about that age, too. I never put those two things together before. Now you‘ve really got me thinking. 3y

CBee @GingerAntics just a few theories I‘ve had over the years. Also when I was a kid I was much more comfortable in my own skin - teenage hood changed all of that. I‘ve never quite gotten back to that “love the skin you‘re in” mindset 😕😳 3y

GingerAntics @CBee I don‘t remember ever being completely carefree. I‘ve had anxiety as long as I can remember. I would pay large sums of money for carefree for five minutes. Actually, I sort of was carefree for a few days once. I pulled something in my neck and they gave me muscle relaxers. My brain was really quiet when I wanted it to be. It was a hell of a trip. 3y

CBee @GingerAntics I get that. I‘ve had anxiety since at least 13 or so. Well, it started as more depression. Anxiety got worse just within the past 10 years..... but I do remember feeling pretty okay with myself as a kiddo. I‘d bottle that feeling and save it for special occasions if I could 😂 3y

GingerAntics @CBee apparently the muscle relaxers they gave me were also a popular anxiety medication for a long time. I could totally see why. Unfortunately, there were huge problems being on them long term, which is why I could never convince anyone to get then to me on a regular basis. I remember thinking “is that what relaxing is like for normal people?” 🤣 I know all about the depression, too. I think I had the anxiety first, and now the depression. 3y

CBee @GingerAntics I‘m sorry you‘ve struggled with it so much. I really do understand. The meds they gave you were probably habit forming maybe? I actually take something like that to sleep at night - I don‘t like it, but it‘s what works right now 🤷‍♀️ 3y

GingerAntics @CBee from what I could tell, that‘s what it was. The stuff I was on for my anxiety was actually horrible to come off of as well. I‘m not sure any of the meds are all that great in that department. It certainly taught me to be more cautious with meds. 3y

CBee @GingerAntics I‘ve tried soooo many. The one I‘m on now is okay, I tried switching a couple of months ago and felt like I was losing it. It was awful! 3y
