How Will I Know You?
How Will I Know You?: A Novel | Jessica Treadway
5 posts | 3 read | 21 to read
A page-turner about the murder of a teenage girl, from the author of Lacy Eye. On a cold December day in northern upstate New York, the body of high school senior Joy Enright is discovered in the woods at the edge of a pond. She had been presumed drowned, but an autopsy shows that she was, in fact, strangled. As the investigation unfolds, four characters tell the story from widely divergent perspectives: Susanne, Joy's mother and a professor at the local art college; Martin, a black graduate student suspected of the murder; Harper, Joy's best friend and a potential eyewitness; and Tom, a rescue diver and son-in-law of the town's police chief. As a web of small-town secrets comes to light, a dramatic conclusion reveals the truth about Joy's death.

From a variety of perspectives, Treadway focuses on the Before and After of a small New York town after a teen's murder. Well written and certainly realistic characters- but many of them aren't very likable.

Pickpick

Very interesting look at race and reality within a mystery that was compelling if not thrilling. When the pieces started to fit together I didn't want to stop listening. This multi-narrator production was well done. This isn't just your standard murder mystery. It provided a thought provoking reflection of our society today.

I'm making good progress on this audiobook. All of the narrators for well together in the story. The pieces are starting to fit together. I'm interested in finding out exactly what happened to Joy.

Penny_LiteraryHoarders I have this. Think it's better to listen to the audio? 7y
LitHousewife @Penny_LiteraryHoarders I'm enjoying the audiobook, but it would be just as good in print, I think. 7y

Let's see if a psychological thriller is what I need. There are multiple narrators working on this audiobook. I've listened to the first three. So far so good. I'm very curious.
