Erin Blake has one of those names. A name that, like Natalee Holloway or Elizabeth Smart, is inextricably linked to a grisly crime. As a toddler, Erin survived for three days alongside the corpse of her murdered mother, and the case-which remains unsolved-fascinated a nation. Her father's identity unknown, Erin was taken in by her mother's best friend and has become a relatively normal teen in spite of the looming questions about her past.Fourteen years later, Erin is once again at the center of a brutal homicide when she finds the body of her biology teacher. When questioned by the police, Erin tells almost the whole truth, but never voices her suspicions that her mother's killer has struck again in order to protect the casework she's secretly doing on her own. Inspired by her uncle, an FBI agent, Erin has ramped up her forensic hobby into a full-blown cold-case investigation. This new murder makes her certain she's close to the truth, but when all the evidence starts to point the authorities straight to Erin, she turns to her longtime crush (and fellow suspect) Journey Michaels to help her crack the case before it's too late.

Unfortunately you can pretty much skip half the book, as the outcome is super-predictable. But it is kinda cute, in a Nancy-Drew-with-an-attitude kind of way.

Genre: Fiction, Mystery, Thriller and Suspense
Date Started: Oct 29
Date Finished: Nov 11
How did I choose this book? I had this book hidden away and I remembered reading it once but I completely forgot what happened. The title also caught my attention.
Summary and information below. :)

Aliezah :) Summary: When Erin was a child, she witnessed the corpse of her mother and the case is still not fully solved. Fourteen years later, Erin is involved in a vicious homicide when she finds the body of her biology teacher. The police asks her questions but she does not make the police aware of her suspicions. She believes the person who murdered her teacher, is the same individual who murdered her mother and she has opened the case once again. 4y
Aliezah :) The most recent case makes her certain that she is close to the truth but when the evidence starts to prove the authorities straight to Erin, she receives help from a fellow suspect (and her current crush) Journey Michaels to help her solve the case before anything happens again.
Who is the protagonist: The protagonist in this book is Erin Blake.
4y
Aliezah :) What was her problem? Her problem was that her mother‘s killer struck again and she knew that she needed him/her caught before it was too late.
How was her problem solved: The killer (which was the principle of their school) got caught when he was guilty of making a plan for trying to stage Journey to make him look as though he was the killer by trying to leave a note confessing that he had killed the biology teacher even though he really did not.
(edited) 4y
Aliezah :) In the end, Erin feels relieved by having caught the killer and is now in a love triangle between Victor Flemming and Journey Michaels.

I actually genuinely enjoyed this book. Some parts felt rushed but over all the story telling was done well and I liked all of the characters.

I won't lie, I picked this book up mostly because the main characters name is the same as mine, and because it dealt with forensics but mostly because of the Erin thing.

I do love YA thrillers and this one had a pretty cool synopsis, so I was excited to dive in. Despite figuring out who the killer was by the third chapter and the Insta love, this had a super cool basis in forensics, which as a CSI and science lover, was super cool. Recommend to people who need a quick read and maybe don't read thriller or mystery often enough to catch the killer by the third chapter. Ha.

Hestapleton Sounds perfect for a reading slump! 7y

DNA evidence had done a lot of good, but it's also capable of doing a lot of bad if it's mishandled by incompetent people or just completely falsified by labs in order to give prosecutors the results they want. #midnightbookgirl #CurrentlyReading
