4 posts | 8 read | 8 to read
From award-winning author Daryl Gregory, whom Library Journal called [a] bright new voice of the twenty-first century, comes a new breed of zombie novela surprisingly funny, vividly frightening, and ultimately deeply moving story of self-discovery and family love. In 1968, after the first zombie outbreak, Wanda Mayhall and her three young daughters discover the body of a teenage mother during a snowstorm. Wrapped in the womans arms is a baby, stone-cold, not breathing, and without a pulse. But then his eyes open and look up at Wandaand he begins to move. The family hides the childwhom they name Stonyrather than turn him over to authorities that would destroy him. Against all scientific reason, the undead boy begins to grow. For years his adoptive mother and sisters manage to keep his existence a secretuntil one terrifying night when Stony is forced to run and he learns that he is not the only living dead boy left in the world. From the Trade Paperback edition.

Pickpick

A good Halloween read! But instead of some bargain bin candy, this Halloween treat has some serious substance. Good Living Dead stuff!

I woke up this morning and my first thought was, "Yay! I get to start this new book!" Stony Mayhall is a zombie, raised by human parents. Im not usually into zombie stories, but this seems more like a "sympathetic monster" Frankenstein-like tale. ?

Bette I remember it was unusual but fun. 7y

I've had Raising Stony Mayhall on my shelf for a few years. I've only read a novella by Daryl Gregory (We Are All Completely Fine), but I really liked it. I bought this soon after I read his novella.

I just spent most of today cleaning my bookshelves, culling my library, and reorganizing so that the books that have sat unread for years are at the front. This one is right at my eye level now so hopefully I'll get to it soon! 😄 #FunFridayPhoto
