Soon to be a major motion pictureproduced by Guillermo del Toro and directed by J.A. Bayona REMAIN CALM DO NOT PANIC TAKE SHELTER WAIT FOR FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS THE SITUATION IS UNDER CONTROL Society is rocked by a sudden increase in the number of violent assaults on individuals. Christened 'Haters' by the media, the attackers strike without warning, killing all who cross their path. The assaults are brutal, remorseless and extreme: within seconds, normally rational, self-controlled people become frenzied, vicious killers. There are no apparent links as a hundred random attacks become a thousand, then hundreds of thousands. Everyone, irrespective of gender, age, race or any other difference, has the potential to become a victim - or a Hater. People are afraid to go to work, afraid to leave their homes and, increasingly, afraid that at any moment their friends, even their closest family, could turn on them with ultra violent intent. Waking up each morning, no matter how well defended, everyone must now consider the fact that by the end of the day, they might be dead. Or perhaps worse, become a killer themselves. As the status quo shifts, ATTACK FIRST, ASK QUESTIONS LATER becomes the order of the day... only, the answers might be much different than what you expect.... In the tradition of H. G. Wells and Richard Matheson, Hater is one man's story of his place in a world gone mad a world infected with fear, violence, and HATE.

#Scarathlon Photo Challenge Day Five: Blood

The first two books, Hater and Dog Blood, were really good and such a neat concept. I feel like Mr. Moody really dropped the ball with Them or Us. Pity.

This book is okay - I'd still like to read the second one and see how it turns out.
I like the concept of the group they call the "haters," I am a big zombie/apocalypse girl so it was appealing.
The main character, I had a hard time appreciating. He is very miserable. His pessimism was irritating at times, but the book is still exciting and violent and all of the other qualities that would make someone tilt their head at me with concern.

I really liked the concept of this book…I found some of the dialogue to be boring and repetitive, and the end was not what I expected, but overall, it was good. And I read it in less than 24 hours!
⭐️: 3.5/5

“Until now we‘ve discriminated against each other according to race, religion, age, gender and just about every other differentiation imaginable. Look around you tonight and you‘ll see that those differences are gone. Now...there is just “us and “them”, and it is impossible for us to coexist. We have no alternative but to fight, and we must keep fighting until we have wiped them out.”

Obviously I am not Guillermo del Toro & do not have his creative insight/vision bc I honestly cannot see what he does in this horror tale of societal collapse: For reasons unexplained, some people become vicious Haters, running around on the survival principle of, “Kill or be killed.” There‘s action & a huge twist, but it none of it plays out convincingly. What I thought in 2012 still stands:

Guildedearlobe I remember being underwhelmed by this one and not particularly liking the main character. 6y

A few years ago, I listened to the audio version of this book narrated by Gerard Doyle. The performance was great, but the overall story of a community infected by a rage virus, turning everyone into basically angry zombies, was only “meh.” I decided to re-read it because I found out that Guillermo del Toro is producing a film based on the book and so maybe I need to look at this again with fresh eyes.

LibrarianJen Oooh! Maybe I will just watch the film but make Jake read the book. Let me know if you like the reread. 6y

There are some really hateful people in this world. Working with one of them is such a drain. It is one of this situations that if you gave them a million dollars they would have a fit because it was not a million and one instead. Sorry, I just don't get being that angry and hateful all the time.

MayJasper It is so exhausting having your nerve ends constantly fried by such appalling behaviour 😞 my sympathy to you 7y
mjdowens Oh thank you. I pretty much just bite my tongue and don't respond, but it does get pretty irritating sometimes. Just needed to vent a little so I could move on with my happy life🤗💕 7y
