Lusaka, Zambia 1978: 9 year old Pumpkin is living with her mother. Her rich father is living with his wife and sons. When he one day finds out that Pumpkin‘s mother drinks too much, he takes Pumpkin home with him. This will change Pumpkin and her mother.

I find it hard to rate this book and figure out what I feel about, since I didn‘t connect with the writing and wasn‘t pulled into the story. So I guess that‘s why it‘s a so-so.

I want to finish both 304 Days and Diary of a Naturalist, read Patchwork and hopefully read two picture books for kids

Patchwork follows the life of "Pumpkin" first when she was around nine and then in the second part in her early 30s. The book describes a childhood that had this girl stranded between the worlds of her rich dad whose illegitimate child she was and her alcoholic mother. The story also covers, how some hurt that happened in the past can have wide reaching impacts in the life of people and their families. #readaroundtheworldbookclub

Our #readaroundtheworld pick this month was Patchwork taking place in Zambia. Overall I‘m glad I read this story. It just felt chopped up unnecessarily which is all I want to say so I don‘t spoil anything. I will definitely be thinking of it over the next few days.
