Swami and Friends | R. K. Narayan
3 posts | 11 read | 2 to read
R. K. Narayan (19062001) witnessed nearly a century of change in his native India and captured it in fiction of uncommon warmth and vibrancy. Swami and Friends introduces us to Narayans beloved fictional town of Malgudi, where ten-year-old Swaminathans excitement about his countrys initial stirrings for independence competes with his ardor for cricket and all other things British. Written during British rule, this novel brings colonial India into intimate focus through the narrative gifts of this master of literary realism.

India celebrates Children's Day on Nov 14 to commemorate the birth anniversary of the first Prime Minister of India Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. this day reminds me of two things which I like to share, i, e creating a better world for our future generation, & to be a child at heart 🥰 wish you all a happy children‘s day 🥰 Tagged 1 is probably the first book I read in Eng, which reminds me of my childhood. This coat of R. K. Narayan, one of the greatest of Indian writers in English, is at the Museum in his honour at Mysore in South India... Fortunate to have visited last year...
