The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle
The Legacy of Elizabeth Pringle | Kirsty Wark
5 posts | 1 read | 2 to read
'ORIGINAL AND ENTHRALLING' Guardian 'COMPLETELY ENCHANTING' Penny Vincenzi Longlisted for the IMPAC Award Elizabeth Pringle lived all her long life on the Scottish island of Arran. But did anyone really know her? In her will she leaves her beloved house, Holmlea, to a stranger - a young mother she'd seen pushing a pram down the road over thirty years ago. It now falls to Martha, once the baby in that pram, to answer the question: why? Martha is coping with her mother's dementia and the possibility of a new life on Arran could be a new start. A captivating story for fans of Rosamund Pilcher, Maeve Binchy and Rachel Joyce of the richness behind the so-called ordinary lives of women and the secrets and threads that hold them together.

Really loved this. It was both intriguing and simple.
I liked the use of poetry quotes.

Ms.Story This sounds lovely! 😊 5y

I'm racing through this. Fortunately I'm on the school holidays so have extra reading time 😃😁😀.
The two stories in this are really interesting and I anticipate the next section hugely as I'm reading.

This was handed out at book club last night in anticipation of April meet.
I think this is her first novel although she's highly regarded in non fiction and radio.

Living directly under a flight path, I tend to avoid aircrash books! The only one I've actually read is Before the Fall, so I thought I'd see if there was anything that included, but wasn't *about* a crash out there!

In this one, Elizabeth volunteers to search for survivors after an aircrash on the Scottish island of Arran. It's written by newsreader Kirsty Wark. Anyone read it?

Cinfhen I have lots of fears...luckily flying isn't one... 6y
TrishB Not read this one! I used to absolutely hate flying, but have done so much with work I just get on with it now and take deep breaths occasionally! 6y
Kaye Flying is the only thing I‘m scared of. Will not ever ride in an airplane. I‘m so sure it‘ll crash if I‘m on it, that I can actually see “flashbacks” of the plane going up in flames right after liftoff. Not sure why, but I can‘t watch an airplane take off because of that. Never knew anyone in an airplane crash, but I‘m convinced mine would go up in 🔥 flames. 6y
Bookworm-Bobbie The only book I remember reading about planes is The Langoliers. It was so random, I don‘t remember much of it, but I remember really enjoying it (and being freaked out a little.) no crashes that I remember... 6y
MiyakoBunny @Bookworm-Bobbie Ahhhh I loved The Langoliers 😱😱😱 6y
