In captivating prose, Diane Les Becquets tells the story of one woman missing in the Colorado wilderness and another bent on discovering the missing womans whereabouts, in an unforgettably moving and thrilling literary debut. It is the last weekend of the season for Amy Raye Latour to get away. Driven to spend days alone in the wilderness, Amy Raye, mother of two, is compelled by the quiet and the rush of nature. But this time, her venture into a remote area presents a different set of dangers than Amy Raye has planned for and she finds herself on the verge of the precarious edge that shes flirted with her entire life. When Amy Raye doesnt return to camp, ranger Pru Hathaway and her dog respond to the missing persons call. After an unexpected snowfall and few leads, the operation turns into a search and recovery. Pru, though, is not resigned to that. The more she learns about the woman for whom she is searching, and about Amy Rayes past, the more she suspects that Amy Raye might yet be alive. Prus own search becomes an obsession for a woman whose life is just as mysterious as the clues she has left behind. As the novel follows Amy Raye and Pru in alternating threads, Breaking Wild assumes the white-knuckled pace of a thriller laying bare Amy Rayes ultimate reckoning with the secrets of her life, and Prus dogged pursuit of the woman who, against all odds, she believes she can find. Sometimes you go into the wilderness alone and good things happen like you find yourself. And sometimes bad things happen like you get really, really lost.

I've been without my phone for a week and man did I miss litsy and all you Littens! But never fear! I caught up on some good reading in while I was away. #alwaysbereading

Suet624 Have you been hiking? 7y
JoeStalksBeck Cool pic! 7y
valeriegeary @Suet624 Yes but that's unrelated to the phone. My screen broke and I couldn't access any apps. But yes, hiking, always. 😄 7y
Suet624 The idea of being without my phone for a week .... ugh. 7y
valeriegeary @Suet624 it was pretty frustrating! 😡 7y

I would have bailed had it not been a Book Club pick. Debut novel that had promise but didn't deliver for me.

A woman goes hunting alone one morning and doesn't return when she should. During search and rescue, a woman working for the Bureau of Land Management gets especially invested in finding this particular hunter. The story is told from both perspectives, and I thought each narrator was excellent.

Great escape for this 100% city girl!

Starting a new audiobook. Following The Handmaid's Tale will be tough, but a female-centric mystery sounded like a good option. Barely started and I like it so far.

LeahBergen I misread it as "Breaking Wind" initially! ?? 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @LeahBergen 😂😂 Now that sounds like a male-centric book! 7y
LeahBergen Exactly!! 😂 7y
Dragon Oops 🙊 I thought it said Breaking Wind too! 7y
BarbaraTheBibliophage @Dragon Clearly there's a cover design issue here! 😂😂 7y

This was pretty much *nothing* like the book jacket described. Still, once I started, the story and the writing kept me hooked to the end.

Interesting mystery/outdoor story of a woman hunter lost in the snowy mountains and a woman ranger who is on the team to find her. What really happened and what are the women's motivations? Decent novel w/ believable women characters; Colorado setting plays a role. Worth the read. Okay audiobook.
