From the author of THE SUMMER PRINCE, a novel that's John Grisham's THE PELICAN BRIEF meets Michael Crichton's THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN set at an elite Washington D.C. prep school. Emily Bird was raised not to ask questions. She has perfect hair, the perfect boyfriend, and a perfect Ivy-League future. But a chance meeting with Roosevelt David, a homeland security agent, at a party for Washington DC's elite leads to Bird waking up in a hospital, days later, with no memory of the end of the night. Meanwhile, the world has fallen apart: A deadly flu virus is sweeping the nation, forcing quarantines, curfews, even martial law. And Roosevelt is certain that Bird knows something. Something about the virus--something about her parents' top secret scientific work--something she shouldn't know. The only one Bird can trust is Coffee, a quiet, outsider genius who deals drugs to their classmates and is a firm believer in conspiracy theories. And he believes in Bird. But as Bird and Coffee dig deeper into what really happened that night, Bird finds that she might know more than she remembers. And what she knows could unleash the biggest government scandal in US history.

Amazing! Interesting plot, realistic characters, plus a pandemic and a super corrupt government.
Trigger warnings: mentions of rape, pretty sure there‘s a brief mention of suicide, and (in case the title didn‘t give it away) a lot of drugs.
It‘s a fairly long read, idk the page count but my audiobook was thirteen hours long so...

I‘m taking AkashaVampie‘s idea of listening to an audiobook and coloring (thanks Akasha!) and I found it‘s actually really fun and soothing.

Loving the audio version of this over the top dramatic YA novel. Dystopian flu epidemic as seen through the eyes of privileged high schoolers— just what the doctor ordered.

Well that was refreshing - a diverse, complex YA thriller that didn't talk down to the reader or shy away from serious subject matter. I found the plot to be a little overwrought at times without the warranted payoff, but I loved the relationship between the lead and her love interest. Books like this need to be more in the mainstream. #WeNeedDiverseBooks

Still in lots of neck/shoulder pain, but I can manage to hold up hardcover books now! I'm only 30 pages in, but I'm loving this so far. Also, Jude is helping me read.

MrBook Good vibes sent you way so the pain can go away! 😻 7y
