Daughters Of The Storm
Daughters Of The Storm | Kim Wilkins
22 posts | 17 read | 57 to read
The first passionate, magical book in a compelling new series from award-winning author Kim Wilkins. Lying in a magic-induced coma, the King of Thyrsland is on the brink of death: if his enemies knew, chaos would reign. In fear for his life and his kingdom, his five daughters set out on a perilous journey to try to save him, their only hope an aunt they have yet to meet, a shadowy practitioner of undermagic who lives on the wild northern borders. No-one can stand before the fierce tattooed soldier and eldest daughter Bluebell, an army commander who is rumoured to be unkillable, but her sisters, the loyal and mystical Ash, beautiful but unhappily married Rose, pious Willow and uncertain Ivy all have their own secrets to keep from her the kind of secrets that if revealed could bring disaster down upon not only them, but the entire kingdom. Waiting in the wings is stepbrother Wylm whose dealings with Bluebell's greatest enemy, Hakon the Raven King, would end Bluebell's dreams of revenge on his mother and propel his own desperate grasp for power. Daughters of the Storm is a richly drawn historical fantasy full of passion, magic and fire, an intimate epic that traces the lives of five complex women as they pursue a quest upon which the fate of a kingdom as well as their own destinies rests.

Five sisters: Bluebell, Rose, Ash, Ivy, and Willow gather together to save their father after he falls into a magical coma.
To Bluebell, nothing is more important than family but her sisters are all preoccupied with their own problems, be they selfish or legitimate concerns.
Meanwhile, their treacherous step-brother plots to take the throne from Bluebell.

I wasn‘t really happy with some of the storyline and how everything ended but overall a good read (somewhat) 💁🏼‍♀️

Thoroughly enjoying this book so far. I kept walking past it on my bookcase, and it was just begging to be read. Then I saw a review online, which intrigued me, and that settled things—I had to read it, right now. 😊

An epic #fantasy adventure #novel giving readers five complex women with complex relationships & yet there‘s plenty of action and a unique magic system in this Norse influenced world

I really enjoyed this fantasy novel about five very different sisters trying to save their father, the king, while protecting their own secrets that could hurt them. It's told from the perspectives of all five sisters, and their step brother, some more likeable than others. It is book 1 in a new series. Can't wait for the next one!

1. I just thought this ARC I got at work was funny - they're solving mysteries now!
2. Five very different sisters try to save their father, the king, before their own secrets destroy their lives.
3. Fantasy, starting to get more into thriller/suspense/mystery (Includes YA for all of these)
4. Sunny and hot
5. My husband's work is having their employee family picnic/cookout.

1. Daughters of the Storm, and for buddy reads, The Gunslinger and Ink and Bone
2. I loved to read for as long as I can remember. Maybe it was just living right by the library that made me love it.
3. All day!
4. Maniac Magee, The Book Thief, My Sister's Keeper

Finished this week's section of The Gunslinger and now moving on to this fantasy about five sisters who are very different, who must journey together to find a cure for their father, the sick king to keep their treacherous step brother from taking the throne.

I legitimately can't figure out if I liked this book or not. Some characters are so fucking stupid and annoying but I really liked some other characters and the writing was decent... 🤔🤔🤔 Have to figure this out before Sunday's video

Definitely one of my #FavoriteReadsOfTheMonth!! This epic fantasy is a family drama bringing five disparate sisters together when their father, the warrior king falls mysteriously ill! Exciting, enthralling and hard to put down, I loved this one from start to finish, so it didn‘t spend too much time in my new sleeve!!! #FebInBooks @bookisglee #showmeyourbooksleeve @Tiffy_Reads

New fantasy series? Some are better than others. This one, my friends, is going to be EPIC! I was captivated by the big, fat, luscious story that features women in non-traditional roles. The power held by the women in this story is remarkable, even if some of the characters aren't always likable. Bluebell is a character to remember. She is the the male/female, hero/antihero, and oh, how I love her! Highly recommended.

sprainedbrain Looks great! Stacked. 😃 6y

I'm pretty much the slowest reader known to man, but I'm going through this one at an impressive clip. It's an entertaining and well balanced read. #arc #feministfantasy

Bookseller life. I got this one early enough that I might even be able to write an indie next blurb for it. #ARCsfordays #slowestreaderever #kimwilkins #daughtersofthestorm

Blood. It smelled like the promise of something thrilling as much as it smelled like the thrumming end of the adventure. It smelled like her father when he came home from battle [...] and as she smashed her skinny, child's body against his thundering chest in welcome, he smelled to her only of good things.

Now that she was a woman and knew blood intimately, Bluebell loved and feared it—and appreciated its beauty splashed crimson across the snow.

We all have trusted bookworm friends who's taste is impeccable and who's book recommendations you always enjoy. @Kalystia is that for me. She was amazing enough to send me this book from across the world, because it wasn't available in my country.
And I'm so glad she did... it was an amazing ride, this book! Amazing world build and engaging characters. I truly enjoyed reading it!
Kim Wilkins is a very competent storyteller.
Thank you Kalystia!

thec0zy I loved this book, but I wanted all the sisters to be besties at the end. I can't wait to see where she goes with the sequel! 8y
Gissy I will like to read it but I looked in amazon and is only available in kindle version. Do you where else I can get it? 8y
BooksRockMyWorld @Gissy it's an australian author, so australian Amazon might be helpful! 8y
Gissy Thank you and my apologies for my grammar errors 😳 I think I was thinking fast or tired for reading for a long time but I love it 😊 8y
BooksRockMyWorld @Gissy please don't worry about it... I'm make errors so often, and I'm also very bad at proofreading. Would be awful of me to hold it against anyone. 😘 8y
