Finished Emma Donoghue's latest and though it starts slowly, it is a page turner! It's stayed in my thoughts and has kept me wondering... Atmospherically it reminded me of Hannah Kent's "Burial Rites" and I've also seen it compared to Ian McEwan's "The Children Act" for emotional drama.

Reading an ARC of this - my first Ami McKay and liking it so far!

5 stars!⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ After being on my shelf for the better part of this month, I sat down with this book, with little to no expectations, and was quickly pulled in and was captivated until the very last page, reading it in the span of a few hours. The beginning is mundane enough but once the action starts (all within the first chapter), it doesn't stop. Truly a book you can't put down!

I was so excited to get my hands on an advanced copy and now the ending has left me devastated.😢 (Now I will need to reread the previous seven books.) The Flavia de Luce series is one of the few books that I come back to and every time I reread them, it's like being with an old friend again.

I work in a bookstore, so this book has been on my radar for about a year now before I finally picked it up. Really enjoyed it and looking forward to reading the sequel! The societal construct between the Alphas and Omegas reminded me a lot of "The Chrysalids" by John Wyndham - perhaps not such a coincidence, as there is a place named Wyndham in the book!

Finished "Homegoing" (amazing!), and about to start reading "By Gaslight", which I've been hearing nothing but good about!

Just beginning to read "Homegoing" and, already, can see how it's deserving of all the hype. Only just about 20 pages in and Yaa Gyasi's prose is as evocative as it is visceral. In a single phrase, all the feels...!

A chilling account centred around a man known only as H.M., who was unable to form long-term memories after he was lobotomized. Part biography, part history, and part science, so far (I'm about halfway through) it's a sombre account of a dark period in medical science and history.

Reading...at night! Finished "Stiletto", the long-awaited sequel to Daniel O'Malley's "The Rook". Greatly enjoyed it and definitely worth the wait!

Around a year later and I'm starting to read "Little, Big" by John Crowley. Bought it as an ebook after being nearly impossible to find! Last year I read "Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell" - which I LOVE - and I saw some comparisons made to "Little, Big".

Reading Erik Larson's "Dead Wake" - liking it overall; I'd forgotten how good it feels to read a well-written history book.

Fast-paced and full of intrigue, "Smoke" is set in an alternate Victorian London where people “smoke”, revealing their sin. The Charles Dickens quote serves as an epigraph. My favourite read of 2016 so far!

Sometimes, to start at the beginning you have to go to the end. I read the acknowledgements page at the back first, where Dan Vyleta mentioned the Dickens quote that serves as an epigraph - then I skipped to the front and read it, becoming intrigued.

After being on my list for so long, I found a hardcover of "Just Kids" for $10 and bought it; started reading last night and haven't stopped.

Beginning to read "The Nest" - already groaned in dismay reading the prologue and how it ended, how all their problems started.

I made this one of my staff picks at work - it's a great book for anyone looking for ways to improve their confidence, in any and all areas of life. Reading suggestion: pair with Susan Cain's "Quiet" and or Neil Pasricha's "Happiness Equation".

I read the book while I waited to see the movie - a lovely, pleasant read and coming-of-age story, with that element of a stranger in a strange land. While I did mostly enjoy it, I found the ending abrupt.

I thought I'd give this book another shot (it's been sitting on my shelf for years) and found the beginnings of two different stories of mine. One of them a Sherlock Holmes story! 🙊🙈
