I expected too much due to the hype. This book felt too long, which is never a good sign. And I figured out the end halfway through, which never, ever happens to me. Also, **SPOILER** two violent husbands in one book? That suggests the author's trying too hard.
Finally, the "unstable narrator" bit was badly overcooked. It rested mostly on Rachel's drinking problem, which was mentioned 47,386 times in this book.
Decent book, nothing special.

Suzze I'm with you! I read it before it was out, felt very "meh" about it, and was surprised at all the hype. 8y

Sorry for the crappy Kindle pic! Photography is not my strong suit. (Disclaimer: this is the ugly side of my quilt.)
Now that we've got that out of the way, the book! A decent read but not memorable. The characters are interesting enough, but there are a few too many of them, which I think makes all the characterizations suffer. I'll probably give it 3 stars on Goodreads, 2.5 if I could.

Pickpick

I had low expectations for this book. It seemed from the description like a zany comedy based on pop culture. Happily, I was wrong. It's a thoughtful and yes, entertaining book. I'll be reading Matthew Norman's other book soon. Here's to not judging a book by its blurb!

LauraBeth I just realized I have this on my Kindle 😀 8y
sparrow843 @LauraBeth Yay! You probably got it as a Kindle First book for June or possibly May. I did. Enjoy! :) 8y

Alert: SPOILERS!! I put the spoiler tag on, but you never know.😉

The end of this book disappointed me. It suddenly became a book about a villain rather than about a marriage, which to me was much less interesting. And wouldn't Kat have noticed that Sarah was up to no good long before she did?

This is a novel about a marriage after a crisis. (That's not a spoiler; it's in the description.) I'll have to update when I finish though, because I'm not sure I like the direction it's taking. Still, a good read so far.

Just finished this one. It's a good book, and informative about the instability and unavailability of housing for the non-affluent. It offers some interesting solutions as well. Not life-changing (for me), but well worth reading.
