post image
Pickpick

The Glass Castle narrates the life of Jeannette Walls in a very memorable way. As Jeannette grows up, we notice how her view on life changes. When she enrols in high school, she realizes that the life her parents are living is not something she wants to continue to do.

shay.pytlarz Her strong work ethic allowed her to save up money and with this money, she moves to New York. Because of her strong determination, Jeannette Walls was able to turn her life around and live her life how she wanted to. 2y
shay.pytlarz If you like books that show the ability to overcome hardship, then this book must be your next read! 2y
shay.pytlarz The Glass Castle is written in first person point of view. Jeannette Walls narrates the events of her traumatic childhood. Jeannette Walls describes the emotions and feelings she felt during her past, instead of retelling the story while she is an adult. 2y

The Glass Castle: A Memoir | Jeannette Walls

Pickpick

The Glass Castle is a brilliant memoir that looks at the traumatic childhood of Jeannette Walls and her 3 siblings. With a drunk father and a mother who does not want the responsibility of looking after her children, Jeannette and her siblings must stick together in order to survive.

shay.pytlarz From sleeping in cardboard boxes to being thrown in the back of a U-haul truck, we join Jeannette and her siblings trying to navigate the challenges of living in poverty. 3y
shay.pytlarz If you like books that explore the difficulties of living in hardship, then this book must be your next read! 3y
shay.pytlarz A theme in The Glass Castle would be “home”. The Walls family is continually on the run, moving from town to town frequently. Even though Jeannette and her family are constantly moving, Jeannette still searches for a place where she can feel like she belongs. 3y
MissYaremcio I love how you identified a very overlooked theme in this book! Nicely done Shay! 6/6 3y

12-year-old Percy Jackson and his mother Sally go on a vacation to the beach, which is shortly interrupted by a huge storm and a horrendous howl in the distance. Percy‘s best friend Grover shows up unexpectedly at their door and tells him that monstrous forces are looking for him. Grover takes Percy to Camp Half Blood- a camp specifically for kids who are demigods (half-mortal and half-god).

shay.pytlarz Percy finds out that the Greek Gods are still alive, and learns that he is the son of Poseidon. Shortly after he joins Camp Half Blood, trouble in Olympus erupts. Zeus‘ master bolt has gone missing and it is up to Percy and his two friends Grover and Annabeth, to find it and save Olympus before the Gods go to war. 3y
shay.pytlarz If you like fantasy books that are action-packed then this book is for you! Percy Jackson and the Lightning Theif is written in the third person limited point of view. Rick Riordan establishes this through the use of “I” and “we” as we are only seeing Percy‘s perspective of things. 3y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Shay! Are you planning on reading/or have you read the rest of the series? 6/6 3y
shay.pytlarz @MissYaremcio I have read the entire series! It‘s one of my favourites! 3y

post image
Pickpick

The Blackthorn Key looks at the life of Christopher Rowe- a young apprentice apothecary who must use his knowledge and skills to save London before a terrible secret gets into the wrong hands. A multitude of murders put London‘s apothecaries into danger and many begin to fear the worst. As the Cult of Archangel strikes again, Christopher finds his master Benedict Blackthorn, dead in their shop.

shay.pytlarz Benedict leaves a piece of paper behind that is filled with codes that Christopher must decipher in order to save the world. 3y
shay.pytlarz Puzzles, symbols, and codes are a motif that the Kevin Sands uses throughout the book. Sands uses these puzzles to actively engage the reader into the adventures that Christopher goes on. 3y
shay.pytlarz If you are looking for a historical fiction that is filled with secret codes and puzzles, then this book must be your next read! 3y
MissYaremcio Nicely done Shay! I read this novel last year but I don't think I could read the rest of the series. What about you? Would you try the rest of the series? 6/6 3y
shay.pytlarz @MissYaremcio I definitely would try to read the rest of the series! I‘m pretty sure I actually have the second book at home lol 3y
