When people come speak to me, whatever they say, I am struck by a kind of incandescence in them, . . . because the loveliness is just in that presence, shaped around the "I" like a flame on a wick, emanating itself in grief and guilt and joy and whatever else. But quick and avid and resourceful.

You can love a bad book for its haplessness or pomposity or fall, if you have a starve king appetite for things human . . . There are pleasures to be found where you would never look for them. That's a bit of fatherly wisdom, but it's also the Lord's truth . . .

I just started reading this, and already, I am hooked. Her prose is so peaceful, so serene, so sincere. I love that it is epistolary, too--so fitting with the main character's vocation as a reverend. I feel this man's solitude, his peace, his faith. Can't wait to read more.

Greatly enjoyed the world & the characters! Great wit, fun "inside jokes," & obscure literary references. A fun summer read that made me chuckle. The plot development and dialogue felt forced and trite at parts, complete with a predictable ending, but I still enjoyed it!

Stopped by the library today and picked up a few things that caught my eye. Not sure where to start, but I'm excited.
