Firestorm | Rachel Grant
post image
Pickpick

Finally, the attraction between Savvy and Cal that had been simmering through the first two books of Rachel Grant‘s unputdownable Flashpoint series bursts into the promised firestorm. Part action adventure, part travelogue, part political commentary, all romance, this novel keeps you on the edge as the protagonists navigate the Congo and their personal issues to arrive at their happy ending.

Help, it‘s a work day; I have copy to write and taglines to propose. I thought I‘d just DIP into Firestorm just for a taste and I see THIS. It‘s Rachel Grant at her best — weaving hard facts and real issues into her fiction. That‘s why her work is so compelling.

Kissing Tolstoy | Penny Reid

Pickpick

How could I not love a book that talks about the murder of talent in Russia, that argues that Anna Karenina wouldn‘t have killed herself had she been more self-assured, that makes you want to read War and Peace again. Considering how the protagonists, Anna and Luca, identify with the tragic characters of Russian literature, Kissing Tolstoy is a surprisingly light-hearted romance brimming with ideas about art, literature and the joy of reading.

Cold Blooded | Toni Anderson

Pickpick

This is the TENTH book in Toni Anderson‘s stupendous Cold romantic suspense series. Her work just gets better and better. Here she introduces Hunt Kincaid, an FBI special agent tasked with hunting down traitors selling bio weapons to terrorists, and journalist Pip West who is determined to prove that her scientist best friend had been murdered. It is an intense read as the plot twists and turns to very satisfying conclusion.

Just bought a copy of Podkayne of Mars. I was a teenager when I last read it so I'm both excited and apprehensive.

Elizabeth Hunter's dazzling conclusion to her four-part Elemental World Series. From her first book, she created a compelling world of vampires, with fascinating characters ruled by their powers and passions. With each new book, her world became more well defined and the mythology deeper. This is not a stand-alone book. Start with A Hidden Fire, the first in the Elemental Mysteries Series. I promise, the journey will be most rewarding.

Pilate | Ann Wroe
post image

The Pilate we think we know is a mixture of dozens of invented men, each symbolic of something: the State facing the individual, the pagan world opposing the Christian one, scepticism versus truth, ourselves facing God. He represents either man's free will, or his hopelessness before fate, or his struggle to distinguish good and evil, or the tyranny of hard choices.

A meadow is not a natural habitat; it is a relationship between nature, man and beast. At its best, it is also equilibrium, artistry.
