Mehso-so

One cannot escape the pain of humanity no matter how far they travel from earth, a lesson one takes from Oh‘s piece. So don‘t look to Oh to transport you on an out of this world adventure for she can‘t seem to get outside the space of the characters head long enough to transport readers anywhere. Yet, the book is well written and it does challenge readers to ponder the human condition and how we as a species survive our own self destructive ways.

Pickpick

Jemisin‘s fantastic story telling, colorfully constructed world and inventive characters come together to create this magnificent story to lose oneself in. As with many books I found the audiobook an additional bonus, adding depth to the already brilliant storytelling. A first in a three part series, this book easily can stands on its own leaving readers fully satisfied. Although, who wouldn‘t want to return to see what else Jemisin has in store.

Braiding Sweetgrass | Robin Wall Kimmerer

Like sitting next to a babbling brook with your toes in the water, birds singing in the trees on a warm sunny day. Kimmerer is a magnificent teller of stories. Which is why I recommend the audio book. Kimmerer herself reads, providing a soothing journey. Moreover, Traditional Indigenous Knowledge has been said to be the key to combating climate change. And Kimmerer does well to guide readers into a first hand account of an Indigenous worldview.

Spinning Silver | Naomi Novik

Novik may not spin silver but she sure can spin a colorful story! With a brilliant backdrop of fantasy, magic and lore Novik transforms three unassuming characters into heroines we all can identify with. An entertaining and fun read. I‘ll definitely return to this book when I need a good lighthearted story to ease my mind from the woes of this world.

TheBookHippie I enjoyed this very much . 4y

Trail of Lightning | Rebecca Roanhorse

Pickpick

Roanhorse did something here, so although the writing was textbook storytelling, she found different. Indigenous fantasy is mostly an underground genre that has never or quite rarely seen the mainstream. But Roanhorse does it, she brings this unique genre to the public with lovable characters, entertaining action and the most alluring and colorful backdrop of Navajo Culture and lore.
