So gnarly! The conflict between different groups makes things much more interesting.

One Man's Wilderness: An Alaskan Odyssey | Sam Keith, Richard L. Proenneke
Pickpick

This is by far the most relaxing book to read. I like how simplistic Proenneke's journaling style was and he describes landscapes amazingly. As more of a blue collar person that likes to read and wants to write Proenneke really inspires me, not to mention my appreciation of his old school building!

The Jungle | Upton Sinclair

"Into this wild-beast tangle these men had been born without their consent, they had taken part in it because they could not help it; that they were in jail was no disgrace to them, for the game had never been fair, the dice were loaded."

Hands down the saddest book I have ever read.

queenofthecouch I had the copy with all the alternate endings he wrote.. They all ended essentially the same way. 😭 8y

Lonesome Dove: A Novel | Larry McMurtry

A mix of currently reading and to be read. Really hitting the American Southwest hard lately haha.

GuiltyFeat I've never read McMurty, but McCarthy's Border trilogy is outstanding. 8y
GuiltyFeat And to emphasize the point, I've just noticed for the first time that his name is McMurtry, NOT McMurty. D'oh! 8y
Timshel @GuiltyFeat I am loving the border trilogy! It definitely has led me read, Lonesome Dove. I have enjoyed everything so far by McCarthy. 8y

"The night was falling down from the east and the darkness that passed over them came in a sudden breath of cold and stillness and passed on. As if the darkness had a soul itself that was the sun's assassin hurrying to the west as once men did believe, as they may believe again."

I have never been in to graphic novels but was introduced to these by my wife. I love how dark they are. I find them to be a nice casual read when I just want to be entertained.

East of Eden | John Steinbeck

But the Hebrew word, the word timshel—‘Thou mayest‘— that gives a choice. It might be the most important word in the world. That says the way is open. That throws it right back on a man. For if ‘Thou mayest‘—it is also true that ‘Thou mayest not.

One of my favorite books. Interesting historical perspective. Reading this led me to want to learn more about the Chechen conflict as well as Siberia.

As someone with OCD I found this book very relatable. I enjoyed the historical perspectives as well.

This book is greatly informative while still being entertaining. It reinforced everything I believe in unions while giving insight in to current problems.

Reading at work doesn't suck.

Timshel This book was a fun read. The author's humor balanced out the morbidity of the topic. I appreciated the lack of bias from the author as well. 8y
