I'm a huge fan of Sherlock Holmes, and I've been seeing this book on Amazon and other places and needed to read it. At 285 pages, it's fairly short, and I finished it in two days. A great pastiche of Doyle's original storyline, and a twist at the end that even the most observant won't get! Read it!

Whoa. As I began this book, I felt myself nodding along, feeling just the way Nora does. For almost the entire book, I felt close to the same types of emotions-- life, potential, all wasted; the need to make something of yourself. Becoming attached to those whom you envy. Brilliant writing!

What a tragic loss of such a sparkling talent! Reading her fiction and essays transported me back to my senior year of college, when the world was before me and anything was possible. The foreword and introduction from former professors illustrate the profound mark she left on her world.

Although a somewhat predictable plot, I enjoyed the characters and especially Lou's quirkiness. Wanted to read before the movie comes out; wasn't disappointed!

Lamott always seems to come into my life when I need her most... Part of her explanation of grace, I suppose. From stories of getting older, watching her son become a teenager, accepting imperfections... She gives me a dose of what I need without sounding at all preachy. Love her.
