The story of The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner follows a man named Attolis Eugenides – more known as Gen – who claims he can “steal anything”, thus resulting in his inevitable imprisonment in the King‘s castle. But one day Gen receives a request from the King that his life-long sentence in jail be pardoned only if he can steal the unstealable for him.

Ethan.Jamila This leaves him bewildered, as he immediately accepts the King‘s request to steal an ancient treasure that has never been successfully stolen by anyone from the time it was created in an entirely different kingdom. As a result, the King‘s scholar – alongside his two students and a personnel knight – accompanies him on his journey toward the Kingdom of Attolia.

Ethan.Jamila They have multiple disagreements and face various dilemmas along the way, but nothing they can‘t handle. Until Gen and the group arrive at the treasure vault, Gen secretly steals the ancient artifact for himself. This ultimately leads to the group‘s downfall and Gen‘s rise to King, as it is revealed to the Magus (the King‘s Scholar) that whoever obtains the ancient gem should marry the current Queen of Attolia and become King. 4mo
Ethan.Jamila It takes Gen a total of one month to complete this exhilarating journey with a focus on character development, subtle world-building, and unexpected plot twists, It does not follow the traditional fantasy tropes but instead focuses on individuality, personnel skill, and tactic/manipulation. Megan Whalen Turner used Gen‘s character to show the readers that even someone who steals for a living is destined for greater things.

Ethan.Jamila If you enjoy any of these elements, try The Thief at least once in your life. Especially if you read books like The Queen‘s Rising by Rebecca Ross and/or The False Prince by Jennifer A. Nielsen. As Katherine Applegate – a big star in the children‘s book writing industry – once said, “It is a crime not to read The Thief”. 4mo

The Thief by Megan Whalen Turner is a book that lets the reader have a great time reading the book with its action-packed storyline, interesting events, and so much more. The book is told in the first-person point of view of a thief called “Gen“ (which is short for “Eugenides“ the God of Thieves) and follows the story of his temporary freedom from prison life.

Ethan.Jamila Only when the King's scholar releases him out one day for one purpose, and that purpose is to steal an ancient treasure from a neighbouring kingdom to gain more influence & power. If Gen successfully steals the ancient treasure, he will be set free by the King's order. Though it is highly suspicious of the King to let go of such a valuable person, after all, both the King and his scholar see him as a rare tool found in the shed. This book would be 5mo
