Ugh, I LOVE this book!! Adunni, is feisty, smart and curious girl in the pursuit of an education and she doesn‘t let anything get in the way of her dream even when things are bleak. She questions everything and it ultimately it saves her. There‘s probably a moment in the book that‘s a bit of a leap but having been to a book club with Daré it was a plot device to get Adunni where she needed to be. 10/10 would recommend.

I throughly enjoyed this book. It dealt with quite serious topics carefully and thoughtfully. The characters were well rounded and relatable and thought the plots threads were resolved nicely. I‘m not a huge fan of epilogues, I don‘t always find them necessary but I did shed a tear for a note shared in the final pages. Must read for chick lit fans.

I really need to not leave such a big gap between volumes. I almost forgot half of everything that had happened in volume 1. All the same I really enjoy this series! Now to get my hands on the next one.

In places I totally thought I was in conversation with a good friend and had to check she hadn‘t written these collection of essays herself. I particularly thought the beginning essays (The Bachelorette application) was great and I love her relationship with the cat Helen Keller. Not all of it was funny or relatable but enjoyable all the same. I am looking forward to reading how married life is treating Sam and Mavis come 2020.

I really enjoyed these collection of essays and I would be keen to see a volume two now that we are five years on an at the end of the decade. A lot has transpired in this time and I would so enjoy Gay‘s insight.

Knowing very little about Jackie Kennedy and even less so about her sister, I came to this read with big expectations. Unfortunately they were met with a simmer and not the sizzle I was hoping for. I didn‘t particularly care for the name dropping littered throughout the book. I understand that‘s what made them darlings of high society but if anything it was distracting. Interesting at points its an insight into a world I‘ll probably never know.

Educated: A Memoir | Tara Westover

Pickpick

“Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen” Hebrews 11:1
Tara quotes this as one of her favourite scriptures in an interview with Oprah. She describes it as being the intersection between faith and education conceiving of what is and how things could be. I am so grateful to have been recommended this as a read. Westover‘s memoir is compelling, powerful and inspiring. A must read.

A stretch in places, it‘s strength lies in the depiction of North Korea. This is where the book really shines, as well thought out and researched. For the most part I had a hard time putting this down!

I fell in love with Lara Jean and Peter K‘s story after watching the #Netflix adaption of TATB. And just when I thought there couldn‘t be a better pairing than LJ and Peter K, along comes John Ambrose McLaren 😝. A must if you‘re a fan of TATB!
