Pickpick

Witches of Eastwick meets Kill Bill. The underlying premise is familiar: middle-aged women, enraged by their treatment, set about taking revenge on those who wronged them. There's a twist: these three women have witchy superpowers, and although they think their quest is aimed at taking down a serial killer, they find that patriarchy, white supremacy, and kleptocracy are their true foes. I was pretty impressed with how it all went down in the end.

CR: The Change by Kirsten Miller. Came as a rec from a friend who is also going through “the change“ 😉 I'm about a third of the way thru and loving it so far. A lot here is relatable, especially Harriet's experience at the ad agency for better or worse 😩

Mehso-so

What I enjoyed: Coates has a gift for creepy prose. If you want to linger in the blow-by-blow details of every millisecond of a haunting, this book is for you.

That said, it was agonizingly slow. There's not a lot of character development at first. Normally, I would DNF a book like this, but it's spooky season, so I pushed through. I'm glad I did. I'll admit the ending got me and I shed a few tears.

I DNFed this one. Not a bad book, but definitely not for me. I despised the MC, Suzette. I found her intolerably simpering. And I've never wanted a child to die before but, sheesh, Hanna was truly despicable lol! Anyway, I didn't make it past p50. I have a huge TBR. It's on to The Change!

This is a fun throwback for anyone who read the Fear Street books when they came out! Expect the usual problematic tropes about oversexed boys and dangerous girls lol. But the nostalgia part is fun!
