Pickpick

I was a bit apprehensive to read this book at first because it‘s written by a non-Indian about a Punjabi Indian detective, Vish Puri. As soon as I dismissed my preconceptions, I really got into the story and could visualize the characters, feel the hot dust of the road & taste the Chai. Yummy read!!! I wish I‘d savored it more.

Dragon I enjoyed this mystery and I really enjoyed the glossary at the end. 6y
AllTheWords @Dragon Yes! I loved all the little details of daily life too! :) 6y

The Fold: A Novel | Peter Clines

Pickpick

Set in modern day, The Fold is a witty, fun ride with just the right amount of Sci-fi. I listened to this on Audible and with Ray Porter narrating it was pure joy!

Fortune's Daughter | Alice Hoffman
post image
Pickpick

I developed a mini obsession with Alice Hoffman
ever since I purchased & listened to an Audible copy of Blackbird House. I found my self savoring the minutiae of the character‘s daily lives as their stories unfolded. Her writing is smooth and seamless; the conversation flowed like real life. Fortune‘s Daughter carries through with the same great story telling, including a wisp of magic woven throughout. I enjoyed it very much!

The Invention of Wings | Sue Monk Kidd

This was a great read, albeit quite sad throughout much of it. I was pleasantly surprised to learn it‘s based on the real life Grimke sisters.

This Is How It Always Is | Laurie Frankel
post image
Pickpick

Laurie Frankel hit it out of the park with this one. I had to pause at times, to let the words roll over me, trying them on and letting them soak in. I really like that the feelings this author expresses, as the parents of a transgender child, are so vivid & real. It made me want to follow the characters forever & know their entire lives. It‘s said that reading increases empathy; this book most certainly does.
