The latest installment of this fascinating series did not disappoint, even though it did make me question the fragile morality of humans and how a seemingly normal, happy Amish family could be hiding a devastating secret. I am also happy that the romance between Burkholder and Tommasetti is progressing, too. Rumspringa (the period of rebellion for Amish teenagers), a serious of mysterious disappearances, and Chief Burkholder gets called in to assist due to her unique background and experience. The ending was a shocker, and it left matters unfinished (?), so it will be interesting where the story goes from here. I see a trend with this series... Action packed, thriller material with some gruesome details. You don't want to know, and yet you can't stop reading until you get to the end. Book 2 didn't disappoint either. As a matter of fact, though I am posting the review late, with down time at work I managed in a few days. The setting is mysterious, dark, and bleak. The violence of the crime is almost shocking, and the fast-paced narrative in the book is appropriate.
