The Girls: A Novel | Emma Cline

Mehso-so

Well, I finished it. That's as good as it's gonna get. This was more depressing than interesting. The hype was not deserved as others have pointed out. The audiobook was decent. #saveyourmoney #getthelibrarycopy

Michelle_mck I agree - I thought I was missing something that everyone else loved it 7y
BookishMarginalia Didn't do it for me either. 7y
GoldenGirl I agree. I couldn't even bring myself to finish it. 7y

Viji Read it because of the hype and was very disappointed. 7y
tricours Hyped books are so risky. I liked this one, for example, but found Dark Matter extremely overrated. 7y
Gayan I did not like this book at all. I had to make myself finish it and that is not like me at all. 7y

Bailedbailed

"Salem is in part the story of what happens when a set of unanswerable questions meets a set of unquestioned answers."
That sums it all up. Save your money and get the library book if you have to read this. ✌️️#lifeistooshort #saveyourmoney

OutlandishLit Very good to know, thanks! 8y
britt_brooke Good to know! I 8y
TheNextBook I was going to get this. Until I started seeing so many reviews about how tiring this book is. Maybe one day. It wasn't a priority and it wont become one anytime soon. 8y

Suzze I so wanted to read this as an e-advance but quickly started seeing not-so-good reviews so I decided against it. 8y
shawnmooney I bailed too - with all the many historical characters, it was impossible to follow on audio. I did think I might give it another try later on e-book. But maybe I still won't enjoy it. The topic itself is endlessly fascinating but this book seems to have some problems, no matter the format… 8y
Zelma I just got this from the library. I can already see why it will be tedious but I plan to read some to toon concurrently. She sure does use one work when six will do, I've noticed. 8y
Zelma *she sure doesn't use one word when six will do. (I blame the wine I had tonight) 8y
moranadatter I bailed on it a year ago. Seeing @MrBook's posts made me want to give it another chance. I think I am going to approach it as reading dense source material in an archive rather than a boom and see if that helps. 8y
moranadatter Oops! Not boom! Book! 8y
Books_Wine_Repeat @kmdartist that's why I started reading it. #litpeerpressure I think that's a good approach. I'd rather read a cereal box than that book again. 🙃 8y
Books_Wine_Repeat @Zelma Maybe I should've read while drinking. 🍷 8y
Books_Wine_Repeat @shawnmooney For me it was too annoying. Everything was speculation and I thought it would be more interesting. It turns out everyone was duped by a bunch of kids or something less paranormal and more 'backstabby'. 8y
moranadatter @Books_Wine_Repeat That's fair. I gave up when people started flying with no set up or discussion as to what was being described. 8y
MrBook @kmdartist You can read it as a boom too 😂👏🏻👍🏻🙌🏻. @Books_Wine_Repeat Great hashtag 😊! See, you didn't wait for my pairing 😆😜! 8y
Books_Wine_Repeat @MrBook There's not enough alcohol in the world for this book. 🤔🙅🏻🍺🍾🍷🍸🍹🍶 8y
StephBengtson My friend said it was "drier than a textbook". That was enough to turn me off. 8y
missberlyreads Ugh...that's too bad. This has been on my list since its release. 8y
Books_Wine_Repeat @StephBengtson That's a perfect description! 8y
