This is a fun reimagining of a Baba Yaga story, great for 4-6 grades. The audiobook is also fantastic, perhaps even better if you want to hear the the pronunciation of the Russian words.

I am not a fan of sad kid books. However, I enjoyed this Scottish story of a boy and his friends tracking and protecting an osprey.
So far I‘ve had several kids complain about such a sad book on the list for #OregonBattleoftheBooks2018
It‘s definitely not one I could widely recommend.

so-soI admit I skimmed this one. Ugh, not my cup of tea. But... my third grader thought it was fun. It‘s a short read and the first of a series that includes science experiments in the back.

so-soThis series is wildly popular at our library. I started listening on audio, but the writing isn‘t fantastic and I didn‘t want to spend that much time with it. However, this series is fast paced and hooks reluctant readers!

pickI was #audiocleaning and finished this one today. I‘m not a big fan of animal stories, but this was fun.
Poppy‘s mouse family lives under the oppressive rule of the wise owl, their supposed “protector.” When Poppy hears that her actions have put her entire family in danger she questions what she‘s been told and sets off on an adventure to find answers.

pickThis retelling of Cinderella is so much fun. Ella is enchanted with a ridiculous and dangerous gift from a silly fairy, the gift of obedience.
The more people who discover Ella‘s curse the more danger she is in, and so are those she cares about. This clever story is full of action and a little romance.
Also, please don‘t judge this book by its terrible movie.

I‘m out in Florence, Oregon today (3 hour drive) for an Oregon Library board meeting. Long drive, but it was a beautiful one and I listened to my entire audio book.
“We the Children” is a fun mystery for grade schoolers- entertaining and great action. The ending felt like the end of a chapter though, not the end of the book, which I do find annoying.
