I don't know if this #novel has the #mostgruesomecrimescene, but it might be the most horrifying to a bookworm. It takes place in a #building and involves more than one #family. #maylovesclassics #litsyclassicshost #oldcoolbooks #catchingup

ReadZenRites Love that cover with the old mansion! 5y
Linsy Lovely! I‘ve never read it, but it‘s now on my TBR! I just watched the Stars adaptation and LOVED it! 👏 5y
batsy Oooh! Great pick. 5y
rubyslippersreads @Linsy I don't have Starz, but I ❤️ the Emma Thompson movie. 5y

I just read this P.D. James quote and I think it fits quite nicely with today‘s photo challenge prompt.

Anyone reading this in the challenge please look away now as the post contains spoilers - a nice boating trip on the seine becomes a murder scene and horrified 19th century french readers.

readingjedi Oh, I love this book! It's just so utterly horrid ( in the best way!) 5y

'It was droning like a harmonium with the flies and bluebottles, and the floor and walls were like a slaughter-house. [...] Right through his broad breast a steel harpoon had been driven, and it had sunk deep into the wood of the wall behind him. He was pinned like a beetle on a card.'
The Adventure of Black Peter: #mostGruesomeCrimeScene for a Sherlock Holmes story maybe?

PickwickPlockPlock @Sarah83 The german one I posted, this Penguin, the Bering-Gould Annotated Sherlock Holmes, the Leslie Klinger Annotated Novels (only just arrived, not read yet), and the rest of the Klinger should arrive in a few weeks. 5y
PickwickPlockPlock @Sarah83 plus the ebooks, and plenty of pastiches and a few non-fiction. 5y
Sarah83 Leslie Klinger? Is this the three parted edition? 5y
Sarah83 😯🤤 5y
PickwickPlockPlock @Sarah83 I'll post pictures when the other two have arrived. 5y
Sarah83 Will wait for it 😏 5y
PickwickPlockPlock Baring-Gould, of course. I need sleep. 5y

I‘ve already used In Cold Blood for this challenge so this is my second choice and it‘s been a while since I‘ve read it but I‘m pretty sure it‘s got a #mostgruesomecrimescene or thereabouts!! #maylovesclassics #litsyclassics

Cathythoughts 👍🏻👍🏻 5y
batsy Gosh yes! Excellent pick. I was racking my brain for something and couldn't think of any 😆 5y

Poe's C. Auguste Dupin investigates a #MostGruesomeCrimeScene in this seminal work of detective fiction involving a locked room and the horrific double murder of two women, where the throat of one of the victims is slit to the point of decapitation and the body of the other is stuffed into the chimney 😱

Tiyas7 @rohit-sawant The artwork 's awesome!! 5y
rohit-sawant @erzascarletbookgasm You should check out John Dickson Carr's works in case you haven't! He's hailed as the king of the locked room subgenre, and his book The Hollow Man is cited as a masterpiece. Hag's Nook, the first Dr. Gideon Fell novel in the series, is a good place to start. 5y
rohit-sawant @Tiyas7 Right?! I love how the composition and lighting unveil just enough unlike other illustrations which plainly give away the dénouement. 5y
Tiyas7 @rohit-sawant Exactly !! As If The Picture is Compelling you to search through it 5y
erzascarletbookgasm Thanks for the recommendation! I‘ve only read one of Carr‘s book, a long time ago, can‘t remember much. Will look them up :) 5y

Act III, scene VII. I'd say eye gouging is pretty gruesome.

The Holocaust was one enormous #mostgruesomecrimescene 😢💔. I read these two when they first came out; graphic novels were still a very new format then. Now the Maus books are considered classics in this format, as they should be. #Maylovesclassics
