Very hard to rate this book! After a promising start it goes downhill. The characters don't talk, they hold speeches. Everybody's good, there's no conflict. At halfway point a secret is revealed, and it has no repercussions. Only two thirds into the book things happen, characters are allowed to clash and there's even a dramatic emotional climax. Because it ends on a high and I might consider reading the sequel, I call this one a very flawed pick.

Cinfhen Helpful review, not sure if I‘m so eager to read this one anymore 🙁 6y
PickwickPlockPlock @Cinfhen A lot of people seem to love this book, so maybe you wouldn't be bothered by the things I mentioned. 6y
Cinfhen I‘ve only been interested in reading this book because of all the #LitsyHype so I‘m glad to see a less than perfect review 😍 6y
SandyW Yes...very helpful review. Same here @Cinfhen 6y

A Man Called Ove: A Novel | Fredrik Backman

When the #litsyhype is real...
I completely fell in love with cranky Ove, with his heart of gold, and his neighbors. I laughed, I cried, I cried really hard. I would recommend this book to everyone!

BookaholicNatty I love Fredrick Backmans writing! I haven‘t read this one but I read, “My grandmother told me to tell you she‘s sorry” and it‘s the same thing. As my book club would say, “Lots of feels” 😂😍📚 6y
Mommamanzi I have been working myself up for this one, I heard I need a box of tissues next to me. 6y
Jess7 Ove is my favorite! 6y

The Bat | Jo Nesbo
Pickpick

First book in the Harry Hole series. It was easy to read with the short chapters and lots of description of Australia. Using this for the Norwegian Noir prompt for #Popsugarbookchallenge. Going to read more from this author this year

Drnkpnkprincess I‘m thinking of using one of his books for that prompt too!! With all the #litsyhype I need to read more ASAP! 6y
RachelAmphlett I loved the stand-alone by Nesbo - Headhunters! 6y

I expected this to be a tawdry, gossipy tale of an 1950s starlet. Instead, this was an unpredictably beautiful book about race, culture, sexuality, relationships, family, and identity. It is about how complicated real life is, and that rarely anything is black and white, good or bad, but somewhere in the middle. I loved how Monique's story intertwined with Evelyn's and the "big reveal" made me gasp out loud. The #litsyhype was real with this one!

2BR02B I felt the same way! 6y
KarynGood We‘re reading this one March! Can‘t wait! 😊 6y
sammisho @2BR02B It really took me by surprise how much I liked it! @KarynGood I hope you enjoy it! 6y

Lab Girl | Hope Jahren
Pickpick

The #litsyhype was spot on for this one! I really enjoyed this memoir of Hope Jahren's life as a scientist and as a human in general. The interspersing of almost poetic chapters about plants with the incredibly honest chapters about her life was such a great structure and I enjoyed both aspects of the book equally. Definitely worth the read! 🌿🌲💚
