Recently back from Portugal, and rereading Night Train to Lisbon hits a little different.
What a beautiful (and bookish!) country! I can‘t wait to return! 🇵🇹📖

#ARichLife Day 28: Lots of #Bread paired with Saramago‘s novel as I was on my way to Lisbon last year. Posting in advance as I will be traveling in two days‘ time.

I‘m not usually a fan of childhood memoir, but I enjoyed this look back at Saramago‘s young years. Around 100 years ago in Portugal is so different from my own experience, and he tells vignettes, giving an overall impression rather than a straightforward recounting. His writing is just so good that I was carried along.

The writing style wasn't as captivating and engaging as I expected it to be, rather contrived. The story was quite compelling and enlightening. The premise was very interesting, but the execution wasn't fictional enough :)

Library today to get books and a state park pass, then to read at the state beach 15 minutes away. 😎
Does your state loan out state park passes? I love this program!

For anyone who likes WWII novels, or spy stories, this is a great read. I thoroughly enjoyed the characters, the setting, the intrigue. I learned a good bit about aspects of the war with which I was unfamiliar. A new-to-me author, I thought this was well written and definitely worth the time. Recommend.
Picture has nothing to do with the book; we visited a nature preserve the other day.

Hubby gave me this for Christmas, and I started it this morning. I‘m already intrigued. WWII fiction; he knows me well😂
