🌕🌕🌕🌕🌑 REALLY GOOD! I loved the ending. Rick has a way of connecting to the reader through his story, and it makes me want to learn Egyptian magic. The only reason it's not 5 stars is because of the reading slump it gave me and a few complaints with the storytelling. Overall wonderful and I can't wait to start the next book!

Finally doing #bookspinbingo for the first time! I'm a slow reader, so I'll probably keep this bingo board for a few more months after this. (Tagged is my current read)

During August we'll be reading the last book in the Kane Chronicles - The Serpent's Shadow. The Kane siblings must battle Apophis and save the world.

How have you been finding the books so far? Excited to read the final book?

I haven't enjoyed this series as much as others. I've been finding the characters frustrating and the romances are questionable

I'm not sure I'll carry on with this series, I'm finding it incredibly boring and I'm losing patience with the characters.

The world is ending in 5 days and there's no urgency. The MCs go off to do non related things. It's so frustrating especially when other RR books have that urgency, that tension, and danger.

⬇️

PuddleJumper Onto the other reason why I'm potentially done with this series. The romance. Carter has become obsessed with Zia, a girl he met once, and has some white knight type fantasy going on.

Sadie, who is 12, has a crush on a 16 year old and a 5000 year old god. Ok. What isn't ok is they like her back and they want to pursue a relationship with her. The 12 year old child.

PuddleJumper I don't know if I want to commit anymore time to this series especially when I've got other books I want to read.

5feet.of.fury Ugh 12 is not appropriate for any age gap, 4 years or 4000. That‘s very icky 1mo
BookmarkTavern The main reason I made it through this series was that the audiobook narrators are fantastic. But they do sound like adults, so the romances didn‘t really register as icky as they are until I finished the books, and actually thought about them. 😅 (edited) 1mo
PuddleJumper @BookmarkTavern The audiobooks have been helping loads, I don't think I would have finished it if I was reading. I don't know why he made them so young, they come across as older anyway! 1mo

I think I disassociated when reading the last book because WTF is this Anubis stuff?

Sadie is 12!

BookmarkTavern Yeah, that always sat really badly with me. 1mo

I enjoyed it. The magic was very different and I liked how the gods were portrayed.

Roary47 Ooo I‘ll read along. I have this series and never read it. 😅 I‘ll catch up to the second book so I can discuss. 😍 2mo

Like a lot of Riordan's books, this was very formulaic, repetitive, and too long. It was an underwhelming book for me.

I liked the magic, the different take on divinity and divine children, and the world building.

PuddleJumper Sadie and Carter were boring main characters. There was set up for tension, interfamilial drama and resentment and it goes nowhere.

The two start with very distinct voices which become muddled as the book goes on. Near the end I couldn't tell whose POV it was unless I checked.

PuddleJumper Similarly, Horus and Isis didn't sound different to the main characters. It would have been nice if they were distinct, maybe used different language or just didn't sound like modern teenagers.

This could have been 200 pages shorter and it would have been better.
