5 Stars • Crippen by John Boyne is a historical novel based on the 1910 murder case of Dr. Hawley Crippen. In London, Cora Crippen‘s dismembered body is found in their home‘s cellar, prompting Chief Inspector Walter Dew to pursue Crippen and his mistress, Ethel Le Neve, who flee to Canada disguised as father and son aboard the SS Montrose. ⬇️

5 Stars • Two words told me this was the book for me. #Romanov #JohnBoyne

"The House of Special Purpose" by John Boyne is a historical novel that intertwines the personal story of protagonist Georgy Jachmenev with the tumultuous backdrop of the Russian Revolution. Set in the early 20th century, the narrative follows Georgy, a young peasant boy who inadvertently saves the life of the Tsar's uncle ⬇️

suvata and is subsequently appointed as a companion to the Tsarevich Alexei. The story unfolds through flashbacks, juxtaposing Georgy's life as an elderly man in 1981 with his experiences during the fall of the Romanov dynasty. It explores themes of love, tragedy, and the impact of historical events on individual lives. 1y

I have read most all of John Boyne‘s novels. In fact, he is probably my second favorite contemporary author. I don‘t know why I waited so long to read this one, but it is, by far, my absolute favorite. I wish everyone would read this book.
⬇️

suvata It is September 1919, and twenty-one-year-old Tristan Sadler takes a train from London to Norwich to deliver a package of letters to the sister of Will Bancroft, the man he fought alongside during the Great War.

But in 1917, Will laid down his guns on the battlefield and declared himself a conscientious objector, an act which has brought shame and dishonour on the Bancroft family. ⬇️

suvata The Absolutist is a masterful, unforgettable tale of passion, jealousy, heroism, and betrayal set in one of the most gruesome trenches of France during World War I.
