David Markovits is Guido Calabresi Professor of Law at Yale University and director of the Yale Center for the Study of Private Law. This interesting but infuriating book convincingly argues that the USA‘s middle classes are locked out of opportunities to advance to the professions and elite education and the elite are forming a self-perpetuating clique but relies on such a narrow view of meritocracy that I was unconvinced by the propose solutions

A small number of people and institutions control most of the world‘s wealth. Yes, the world. Phillips reveals how they are interconnected and details the systems they use to protect and grow their fortunes. While the book can be dry at times, especially when listing wealth managers, their biographies, or major corporations, it remains highly insightful in showing how wealth enables individuals and corporations to achieve their aims.

This short book taught me so much about our “democracy”. I did find myself losing focus at times & thought it was a little weird in how it was written. Afterward, I realized that‘s because it‘s written from interviews Chomsky did, so that‘s why it‘s more casual in its tone. Enlightening for me though & only about 4 hours in audio format.
