Three years ago tonight I told my son that he had to read every night during the summer. It could be for one minute or twenty, graphic novel or chapter book, one sentence or many pages. He could choose the book. By the end of summer it got the the point where he did not want to break his streak. And three years later I think we can still count the number of missed nights on one hand. #howtocreateareader #readingchallenge #summerreading

Reviewsbylola lol I know you have one daughter that's a reader. Not so much your other kids? @Cinfhen 7y
carys14 @Cinfhen I never expected it to actually work! But I think because I gave him complete control over Book choice (he read all three Pokémon graphic novel series) and how much he read, plus making him read BEFORE I would read to him, it slowly became a habit. He rarely reads any time other than at bedtime or for more than 5 min but hey that's better than nothing 7y
Cinfhen I have two boys 21 & 15. The 15 yr old NEVER reads & my 21 yr old likes to read but he's the slowest reader....he's got about 6 books going from 4 years ago! @Reviewsbylola 7y
carys14 @Cinfhen yeah. I am not sure if I would have been successful had we started this year. He was 10 when we started and a bit more malleable. Lol. He is also a very slow reader. He is working on a 4 book series and I think it is taking close to a year to finish each one. #slowAndsteadywinstherace🐢 7y
Cinfhen Like that hashtag🙃truth! 7y
Reviewsbylola Ha! My 17 yo stepdaughter rarely reads either. @Cinfhen My mom just bought her a new book so 🤞🏻🤞🏻 7y
Cinfhen You guys will convert her yet! My own daughter didn't start really reading until after she graduated college @Reviewsbylola so there's still hope❣️ 7y
