Mehso-so

I'm unable to quite describe my feelings about this book. It was weirdly beautiful; however, it was equally just plain weird. Plus I found both of the main characters, Benny & Annabelle, incredibly infuriating & annoying. The Bottleman was my favorite character by far, so full of colorful personality & wisdom. ... ⤵️

monkeygirlsmama ... ⤴️ Definitely a good book on audio because the narrator had a great voice. I do wonder though if I would have hated Benny & his mom less if the narrator had made them less whiny. Cause, despite everything they both had going on mentally and emotionally, I feel like neither would have been so infantile in the way they talked and pitched fits. Fits & frustrations? Sure, I just don't think they'd sound so childlike; that's what rubbed me wrong. 3w
Suet624 That‘s too bad about the voices. 3w
monkeygirlsmama @Suet624 The narrator did amazing with other character voices so maybe he read it the way the author intended, but I know if I had read it I wouldn't have made these two so over the top. Guess it just depends on the vibe of the reader. 🤷‍♀️ 3w
CindyMyLifeIsLit I just bought the physical book yesterday, so hopefully it will be better without the voices! 3w
monkeygirlsmama @CindyMyLifeIsLit Will be interested to hear what you think. Happy Reading! 3w

I'm sad....I loved A Tale for the Time Being, but after 100 pages of this one I just can't get engaged. #authoramonth @Soubhiville

AmyG I did a bit of skimming. This was hard for me, too. 3w

Finished. This one was a bit of a struggle. Too long and meandering for my taste. I really wanted to like it.

Soubhiville It‘s a doorstop for sure! Sorry it wasn‘t a favorite. 3w
JenReadsAlot I'm 50 pages in and hoping it gets better for me! 3w

@Tkimsal generously offered up a copy of Ozeki‘s most recent novel and I jumped on the post so fast!

A Tale for the Time Being might be one of my favorite books ever. So, I‘ve got sky high expectations (and no hopes of tamping them down). Reviews have been favorable. Fingers crossed!

Color me surprised when the book showed up in the mail with a bonus mug, to boot! Tim, your gift made me smile. And a smile in the winter is priceless.

Thanks! 🥳

Singout Looking forward to hearing your review! I loved A Tale for the Time Being too. 2mo

I would have bailed if this hadn't been for book club. This family is messed up and everything tied up too nicely at the end after all the terrible things they did to each other. And all the comments about weight/characters being fat were gross.

RebelReader I haven‘t read this one, but I saw a video where this was Lisa Jewell‘s favorite of all her books. Just thought it was interesting given your review. 6mo
Amie @RebelReader That is interesting! Despite her popularity, this author is just not for me - I didn't like one of her other books and bailed on another. I will be avoiding her books from here on out. 6mo
RebelReader @Amie I feel that way about Colleen Hoover! 🤷🏼‍♀️ 6mo

Book 4 and last in series. One pretty disturbing aspect to the crime at the center of the mystery. Good series. Liked it better than this author's standalones.
